Blank lesson pages?

Once in a while, I'll be searching through the lessons and click on one, and I'll get a message like this:

Sorry. The requested lesson page either contains no information, does not exist, or is not publicly available at WholeNote.

Note: This message will appear if a member created this lesson page without any music or lesson text

Should I report things like this to somebody? It's frustrating to find a lesson that really sounds good and then run into a blank wall.

The lesson is most probably being worked on.

In any case, yes, you should report this via feedback to the Lesson Author.

I haven't seen one of those yet. Sometimes a lesson might have a link in it created by the writer, and that message will appear if the link is bad, I know, I've done it, LOL.

I think your best recourse would be to inform the lesson maker first, either through their inbox or email on their homepage (if they provided one).

If you get no answer, then maybe alert WN about it, because the person who wrote the lesson may no longer visit here !!

I might add that the link I'm clicking on is in a list of search results, not in another lesson. So the lesson does appear to be blank. I just messaged the author to find out what's what.

I have a followup question to this thread...

Do someone who has made a lesson have the ability to take it down at any time?

And if so, do lessons that have been taken down (or rather links to them that lead nowhere) eventually stop coming up in searches? Or does something special have to be done to make this happen?

Let me answer this one, YES. No it can't be found by anybody except maybe Rick,   LOL

I've done it, took them all down. I was not in my right mind at the time, and I don't recommend anybody doing this to all their lessons, unless they plan on never putting them back up.

If a lesson author deletes his/her lessons from their lesson directory, the lesson is gone forever. Luckily for my sake, and those whom I made these for (the community), I didn't do that. I created these lessons for two reasons. In the beginning I really got a kick out of the composer, then I realized the real reason for my labors, and that was to share what I know with others here.

So in retrospect it was very selfish of me to take them down. Maybe it was too easy to do, because it wasn't long before I realized what a mistake I had made. If I had deleted them, I would have been sick about it.

I'm not sure if I phrased my question correctly. I have had some searches lead me to links that took me to blank pages. So the lessons were still coming up in the results to those searches, even though the lessons weren't there any more.

I guess what I really want to know is...why does a lesson come up in searches when it isn't there anymore?

Can't answer that one.

You'll have to ask the WN boss's how they have the search engine setup on this site.

You might write Jim Burger's inbox, I believe he is here more often than Chris Sung or Sean Kelly.

Sorry, I misunderstood !!

That's okay, Bruce...the way I worded it, it sounds confusing even to me. :o)

Hmmm . . . I was going to suggest clicking on the "Contact Us" tab at the top of the page but I see they don't have one . . . ActiveBass does . . . I think it's under "About us" . . . how to e-mail the honchos at admin-or-whatever@wholenote.com.

I've had slightly better luck contacting The Powers That Be that way rather than through their member inbox.

Hope this helps!

How's the new composer version coming along? I remember somewhere that you wrote the one currently in use.

Got a release date yet   :~)
