'Scuse me while I kiss this guy

I'm sure many of you know about the sites regarding misheard lyrics.

The other day I ran across a site, where someone misheard a line in the Stones', "Jumpin' Jack Flash".

The original line, "I was raised by a toothless-bearded hag"

It was misinterpreted as, "I was raised by two lesbians".

Well, just to let you know, I had the misfortune of hearing other words/phrases in songs.

Is it okay to blame the worn-out acetate with the chipped stylus needle? I figured you'd say no.

Anyway, the song is "Indiana wants me", a hit from the 70's by R. Dean Taylor.

The original line is, "Indiana wants me, Lord I can't go back there".

Well, for so many years (and I'm not joking), I thought he sang, "Indiana wants me, blow the candles out then".

Well, as you can see, I made a complete fool of myself. I'm sure many misheard Manfred Mann's version of "Blinded by the light".

Come now, admit your guilt ...

Anthony

Yeah, yeah, that's right ... that what I USED to think the line was.

A friend's band used to cover the Everly Brothers "Dream." Instead of "gee whiz" they would always sing "cheese whiz."

That could be a whole other thread ... what cover bands really sing.

Once you understand "uff da", it becomes very difficult to understand rock lyrics. I don't know why that is true, but I am another example.

I only wish it were a joke . . . try listening to the commercial radio stations around Dulut' some time . . . they almost sound like parodies of "Fargo" until you realize that that they're not that sophisticated . . . they just bein' they natural selves . . . and even though I'm originally from Iowa, my hearing is too keen and it becomes hard for me to maintain my dialectic integrity . . . And this all has what to do with music/guitar/bass??? (*sigh*, off-task again)

Go to www.dictionary.com and download a program called CleverKeys (might have to find it under Lexico). It's your on-line link to dictionary.com. It runs in the background all the time and activates with a single keystroke, so that no matter what application you're in, just highlight a word, hit the key, and it gets the definition of the word.

Wouldn't want you to get off your comfy book. Jus' lookit up online.

BTW I type for psychiatrists for my day job, and THEY send me to the dictionary all the time, so fair is fair!
