See Chris Sung's post in the Wholenote area of FretBuzz on spamming.

First, guilty, not quite as charged, but guilty nevertheless of posting in a real-time fashion in a manner that really is more suited to the chat room. I don't post for points, but I do, as others here, get carried away with the moment.

Second, I will be ceasing and desisting in such behavior, as will my alter ego, the nefarious CHUCKMAN. Not that I will be able to resist the occasional joke or pun, of course, but keeping it within reason.

Chris is right. The real purpose of the site is to provide a place where guitarists can come to find resources.

However, WN has also become a real community where individuals have become quite familiar with each other, and I have seen a lot of satisfying "ahhah" moments and displays of support that had little to do with theory, methods, or technique, but rather the kinds of closeness and emphathy that people look for in a brotherhood. I think I speak for many when I say that the sense of community is part of what keeps the active membership coming back again and again. This aspect of WN makes it difficult to avoid spurious, non-musical chatter.

Anyway folks, as WN members, we all have a duty to use WN in responsible and appropriate ways, and I think we can do that and still have fun here!

You're right in everything you say here, guitar resources are what the site is about and I can see that the chatter should be kept to a reasonable amount.
I also feel that I have gotten to know a great many people partly through this chatter and wholenote wouldn't be the same place if it stopped altogether. So I agree we should all be responsible, well, most of the time anyway.

A point well taken. We really don't want to discourage any behavior that helps bring members closer together, and it seems like there isn't that great a medium of interactivity that lies between the FretBuzz boards, and the chat.

Of course, we don't have a problem with people exchanging a few one-liners that result from a thread and that help to create a funny and warm environment, but a few have taken this to the extreme where the interaction is only about the fact that they are lengthening the thread and gaining points in the process.

This is the type of behavior that is detrimental to FretBuzz serving as a knowledge base, as well as to new members gaining a sense of the types of personalities that older members exhibit.
