guitar like pacifica 212

Hey guys, got through a few guitars today because I'm going to be purchasing a new one. I'm looking at the budget range because I'm intermediate and I never play live just play a few songs to tracks that I like (all sorts, from hendrix to muse and onto metallica and things in between). So I went through about 6 or 7 of them, all across the budget range. The one that I really wanted to play but couldn't was the esp ltd 50m. Apparently this is one serious piece of kit so I'm kind of down about that (the only one they had was the 100qm or something like that and it was in the 800 mark so way off my budget so didn't bother with it). After all the playing I realised that my favourite by a long shot was the pacifica 212. The neck compares to the wizard 2 neck for speed... seriously... butter smooth, the neck takes no effort to play. Out of curiosity I played the 112 afterwards and I know they used to have same pickups but I can tell you that these days they are leagues apart. The 212 has some clean power coming through it, you can't believe it's only 70 more than the 112. The next one down from that in my rankings list was the jackson dinky. It was a little bit rigid with the bending but the extra space on the neck width was really awesome for solos.

So after all that I'm looking for an amazing player like the 212 but the width of the neck really cramps things. Do you guys have any leads on a more budget guitar with the butter feel of the 212 but with more room jogging around the fretboard?

I wouldn't buy anything from Yamaha, they are very entry level and their hardware (especially their trems really suck)

Intermediate guitars are best bought used. Look in the trade papers and pawn shops and you should have no problem picking up an American made Strat fro around 600.00 AMD. Just be patient. There are some hard up players out there so you just have pick your spot. I had a student who picked up an LP gold standard a while back for 750.00 so there are deals out there.

Take your time.

Oh yeah, I offered him 850.00 on the spot for it. I know it was worth about 2,500. 00 at the time but I just didn't have the bread to offer him 1,500. 00 which i know he would have taken, but he said no to the 850.00 grrrrrrr

Lil bastard can't play Amazing grace in whole notes, but I'm helping to get his groove on.

Nice CB! Lose a guitar for a cheap price, gain a student if I read it correctly.

I agree with Chris on Yamaha guitars. Once in while you may find a gem but if you want to flip it later for something different, it will be tough. There are many used instruments out there in the medium priced range 450 - 700 that could be had. Check with your local shops, pawn shops and even the big retailers as you may find a great deal and/or offering.

Ummm weird, I've got a respond to this one my own message and then respond to this on your messages, which begs the question, if I respond to my original question does it then notify you guys that I have responded for the topic or just to me?? Weird I know so instead of responding to one I will respond to mine so you all get notified hopefully... anywayz...

I made a decision which came as a surprise even for me. Tnx for the advice btw but unfortunately the fenders are a bit too expensive and the les pauls dulled out tone is not for me. I know it's super powerful but to me it's too thick and not clear. Also the neck for my smaller hands wasn't great so I had to pass on that idea. I was messing around with guitars from 400 to 900 in the shop but I tried a number of brands in that price range but to explain it best they all seemed to be fighting against me. To explain, it's like they're too rigid and I have to try too hard to get around the fretboard, I want to glide not grind if that makes sense. Then the guitar tech at the shop said try this out and handed me a cheapy sterling sub by musicman (sitting at the 270 mark). Now I know the musicman series can reach seriously high prices because impressive pieces of kit but I hadn't heard about this musicman budget series ever. This piece of kit I just connected with immediately so after 30 minutes of jamming I forked out the cash. I really like this neck. It's not as fast as the yamaha but sound is better and stays in tune a looot better. Honestly I could see people gigging with it if they wanted to because it just stays in tune no matter how much punishment I dish out. Another thing that sold me on it is the 5-ways select 2nd step down position. I swear I just use this the whole time, it's got such a lovely warm feel to it, whether it be metal rock or acoustic, it's just bullet proof :). Anywayz, been trying to melt my fingers into the fretboard for nearly 2 months now and I really like it, but more and more I'm getting greedy for tone so I'm thinking it's time to lay down some cash for a real piece of kit that is going to get my skills higher... I guess that will be another post :)

Keep rocking y'all!!!!

Probably because you hit the respond to button next to your original post.

As for the guitar James, while we can advise what we favor, the ultimate choice is yours and what you find that works for you. Either way congrats on the new guitar and enjoy playing it.
