Really Slow. What's Up?

Anyone out there noticing that the pages here at WholeNote are taking forever to load? Is it just me?

When I watch the status bar in my browser, I see it hanging on "Connect: Host ads.admonitor.net contacted ..."

Looks like the ad server is either on the fritz or running out of bandwidth. The WN stuff loads in an instant (I'm on a T3 connection here at work). I've noticed exactly the same problem on several other sites that use this particular ad server.

I think you've nailed it Chuck. No problem for me with the WN content, even on my 56k dial up, but the the adds take forever and sometimes won't open. I've also recently switched to using MS Explorer rather than Netscape 'cause I was having trouble getting the MIDI content to work on this site.

Hey Guys
I have a 56k modem connection and a P2 celeron 333mhz puter and I am not having any of the problems you guys are having except every once and a while and then if I disconnect and reboot my puter and sign on again, all is well. I don't think anything is slowing down or crashing or the like. All seems like normal to me , same as for the last year or so

I've never had a problem most of the time. I'm living on campus and my internet connection is through the SDSM&T LAN, so I get hyper fast internet connection and webpage loading.

Really Slow - the unofficial explanation

Hi Guys,

WN is having no problems, don't worry. However, the company that serves our ad banners is having problems and I think this must have something to do with the problems you guys are having. I don't know this for sure, but it's a hunch, and certainly I can't see any other explanation as to why things would be slowing down for you. I'll mention it to Chris.

If you're getting error messages, please forward them to me or Chris via WN's messaging system. It is odd that only some of you are having problems though, it could just be time to get a new computer or stop downloading new Napster replacements...

Just FYI --

Very slow for about 48 hours now. I'm using mindspring dialup. I'm in Brooklyn. WN is non-accessible, or nearly so, during regular EST biz hours... later on in the eve the problem is tolerable, but still _noticeably_ slow.

I want my money back ;-)

Doug.

The last message on this was in 2001 but never mind.

I'm having a lot of trouble getting into WN these days, especially the Members button. It takes forever to load or gives me the Bad Gateway timeout. This is repetitive, not just now and again. Quite often there's no response at all.

Very often the Members button doesn't work but then asks me to log in despite being logged in already. It's very frustrating and I'm perfectly certain it's the site. All this only started with the arrival of the new-look site. However other buttons work which is why I can post lessons. Even then I have occasional problems.

There's nothing wrong with my computer this end. Good connection, broadband and everything else works fine.

Sorry!

If we read the thread the issue was basically laughed off. And that was years and years ago!

I also have trouble using the playback buttons on Composer. Anybody else?

I'm using WinXP and I'm wondering if it works better on Vista etc...

Btw, your message title says 'the unofficial explanation' but you didn't give one! I've got a feeling it's just a very clever new site with bugs in it which no one's fixing because it's expensive.

It would be good - more than good - to hear from one of the site managers.

Randy -

Sorry, the 'unofficial explanation' quote wasn't yours. I misread it.
