Anyone listen to indie rock?

Hi. I'm a new member here and I play in an indie rock band in Los Angeles. Just wondering if there are other members out there who are into this kind of music and if so, what are your favorite guitar players?

Thanks,

I tend to be selective but sometimes I do:

Spoon - "Don't You Evah."

Silversun Pickups - "Lazy Eye"

Not a big fan of the "Indie Rock" scene, but, I like their song "Panic Switch" (Silversun Pickups)

There's a few "Indie" type bands I liked from the 90's....

Imperial Teen "Yoo Hoo" Killer tune!

Butterfly Bouchet "Another White Dash"

Most indie is too weird for me. But I do come across some songs that I like. Usually those have a little more thought and talent put into them. Examples are ones I mentioned earlier.

Theres too much repitition in Indie Songs. Not enough Variety of Notes and Chords. Not to mention Rythyms.

Agreed! Most are just too boring for my tastes....

Take a band like "Cake"......It's bands like that make me wonder HOW they got a record deal? Yet, oddly enough, I like the song by "Bird & The Bee" called "Again & Again"....For some reason, I love that song! HAHA And dammit....I can't figure out why!

I even liked a bit of Sixpence None The Richer.....She's so hot (Leigh Nash)... But, she's got a killer vocal range....Extremely talented singer!

LOL ! I know it. I appreciate Good Music With Talent and Passion. All the Work and Emotion I put into my Guitar makes me Feel Good about myself. I sometimes wonder about the Bands that I hear. Well , Quite Frankly makes me feel..NOT so good about myself. I feel Cheated when I hear Talentless, Emotionless Bands getting all The Merit and Recognition. I mean seriously, I could Fart into a Microphone, and it would sound better than some of these Bands.

Haha I agree! Unfortunately the music industry us about who you know and how you do business. This easily applies to hip hop, techno etc.

Perhaps come up with a whole new sound/style/genre? For example, Meshuggah, even though they sound kind of boring to me, came up with their own sort of style. And they are WICKED talented. Hear the song "Bleed" to see what I mean.

In the end, bands all derive from each other. But sometimes you have to shock the audience with something new.

Unfortunately, coming up with something new is not easy.

Well, I know I'm putting myself out there for shots. Maybe something like an Arabian, Neopolitan, and Mixolydian scale. And take the notes from the scale and make Chords. Im not sure if it has been Done before. What is the website to find The Bleed song?
