WholeNote Health and Fitness Thread

I thought it would be nice to have a thread to where we can post what we are doing to keep in shape or something to do with health.

I'll start by saying that today I want to do 100 pushups, 50 situps and go for and hour walk, the walk that is, if it doesn't start to rain again.

Well today I walked 4.5 miles in the hot sun, not a very bright idea to do. Also knocked out 95 pushups. Did get a tan though while walking.

I just finished walking 7.5 miles.. Not sure if that is right though. I walked for 3.5 hours. I'll check my stepping meter again next time I go walking. These little "stepping meters" are cool. I think you might be able to pick them up at a dollar rama store. I only paid a ¥100 for mine. Works alright I guess.

Hi Warren
You know I haven't shot you off an email for some time, sorry about that. I've been taken in the sun as much as possible and working around the house. Been busy as a bee really. This week is Japanese Obon week so it is kind of a holiday for everyone. But I'm busy. I know things will slow down soon and then I don't know what will happen. I've been kind of working on learning other's songs. Got a few under my strap now. So I'm really making progress these days. Well, little that is. Still have the Tele, and it is saying "when is Warren going to steal me" LOL. You know Warren, I've posted my clips on other forums and they all have said about the same thing (I'm not talking about my playing now) but that Tele has got to one of the sweetest Tele's around. I could only imagine it in the hands of you playing it and not laying it down till the 24th hour. I'll get you an email with some new japanese pictures of my surrounding. I posted some here but I don't know how to tell you to find them. Maybe on my page? I really don't know. I can find them , but you guys I don't know

I have been walking more lately.... mostly evenings and weekends. My dog really enjoys it, and I bring my girlfriend along some too.

I have been doing lots of work in the yard and garden, but not really anything lately in the way of situps or pushups. Have been keeping a journal related to what I am eating, walking, how well I sleep and how I feel.
Seems like I sleep better if I can eat earlier.

I suspect that chocolate can trigger migraines for me - based on several instances of having chocolate in the afternoon, and getting a migraine. Then again, getting these migraines at work... so THAT could be related to some bad headaches! It does seem that since I am staying off chocolate in the afternoons that I don't get the headaches.

Oh...all right....you guys suckered me back in to working-out....Started back up this week (weight training, standard excersizing, protein shakes, walking, etc)

With all the technology we have today, one would ASSUME they could make those shakes & powders taste a bit better.....????

Me, too, Chris...just re-joined Gold's Gym 2 weeks ago...then fell in my garage the next morning and buggered up my damn ribcage...probly start this weekend. No walkin' or runnin', though...I hate doin' that, so much so that I tell myself that it ain't healthy for me, lol.

Blend in some fruit (peaches work great!) in powdered shakes...since weight gain ain't a problem for me, I use ice cream and/or milk, too.

Hey Edd,

Yeah, I walk on the treadmill, or I walk outside when the weather is nice....BUT, running? Screw that! That's what cars are for! LOL :)

As for the shakes, I am using just a whey protein powder, with VERY LITTLE fat. But, tastes weak. It's not horrible tasting, it's just not very chocolatey! So, gonna have to add some chocolate Ovaltine to it. Ovaltine is pretty healthy stuff, believe it or not..TONS of vitamins in it. Sometimes if I ran out of a protein powder, I'd use Ovaltine (Chocolate flavor) as a post-workout drink with a bit of Creatine in it.

Yeah, sometimes I'll add banana, blueberries, or strawberries to make a shake a little better, otherwise most of them suck.

HOWEVER, the best powder I've ever used was "Muscle Milk". OMG, that stuff tastes AWESOME! But, you have to go easy with it, it's packed with sugar & fats. But, if you use it as a quick meal replacement, or drink a small glass after a good workout, it works like crazy! Honest!

My story:

About 8 years ago, I dropped 85lbs. I was having some serious anxiety & stress-related problems. I had to get rushed to the hospital many times, I used to pass-out frequently, etc...At first, they had no clue what was wrong with me.

I used to think I was having heart-attacks, I had serious chest pains, my arms & legs would go numb, I'd faint for no reason, it was scary as hell. Had to wear heart-monitors on occasion, EKG testing...etc...it was nuts.

So, I went from 255 to 169 in a year's time. No white bread, no soda, no coffee, no chips, no cookies, no pasta, no cake, no ice cream...ALL the junk food from my cabinets was tossed in the garbage! I was eating nothing but salads, protein bars & shakes, and working out like a madman.

I went from a 38-40" waist, to a 32" waist!

Yes, I'll admit, I was SERIOUSLY in the best shape of my entire life. Not even when I was in my 20's did I look that good. Ripped abs, almost zero body fat, well defined, BUT, all that working out took over my life.. I was working out from 6pm (when I got home) to almost 2AM every night. NON STOP!

Just got tired of working out so hard...

So, once again, the weight is creeping back up again, and I need to go back to working out. So, going on 8 days now, and starting (trying) to get back into the swing of things. And going to make a honest effort again, to get back on the right track. Start riding my new bike, too...

Sometimes I add the protein powder to my coffee in the morning, then add some milk. That way there is no sugar, some caffeine, and of course protein and vitamins from the milk and supplement.

I never use the whole scoop or whatever they recommend... they always recommend too much of the supplements. Generally I go with 1/4 of a scoop.
