Hey Edd,
Yeah, I walk on the treadmill, or I walk outside when the weather is nice....BUT, running? Screw that! That's what cars are for! LOL :)
As for the shakes, I am using just a whey protein powder, with VERY LITTLE fat. But, tastes weak. It's not horrible tasting, it's just not very chocolatey! So, gonna have to add some chocolate Ovaltine to it. Ovaltine is pretty healthy stuff, believe it or not..TONS of vitamins in it. Sometimes if I ran out of a protein powder, I'd use Ovaltine (Chocolate flavor) as a post-workout drink with a bit of Creatine in it.
Yeah, sometimes I'll add banana, blueberries, or strawberries to make a shake a little better, otherwise most of them suck.
HOWEVER, the best powder I've ever used was "Muscle Milk". OMG, that stuff tastes AWESOME! But, you have to go easy with it, it's packed with sugar & fats. But, if you use it as a quick meal replacement, or drink a small glass after a good workout, it works like crazy! Honest!
My story:
About 8 years ago, I dropped 85lbs. I was having some serious anxiety & stress-related problems. I had to get rushed to the hospital many times, I used to pass-out frequently, etc...At first, they had no clue what was wrong with me.
I used to think I was having heart-attacks, I had serious chest pains, my arms & legs would go numb, I'd faint for no reason, it was scary as hell. Had to wear heart-monitors on occasion, EKG testing...etc...it was nuts.
So, I went from 255 to 169 in a year's time. No white bread, no soda, no coffee, no chips, no cookies, no pasta, no cake, no ice cream...ALL the junk food from my cabinets was tossed in the garbage! I was eating nothing but salads, protein bars & shakes, and working out like a madman.
I went from a 38-40" waist, to a 32" waist!
Yes, I'll admit, I was SERIOUSLY in the best shape of my entire life. Not even when I was in my 20's did I look that good. Ripped abs, almost zero body fat, well defined, BUT, all that working out took over my life.. I was working out from 6pm (when I got home) to almost 2AM every night. NON STOP!
Just got tired of working out so hard...
So, once again, the weight is creeping back up again, and I need to go back to working out. So, going on 8 days now, and starting (trying) to get back into the swing of things. And going to make a honest effort again, to get back on the right track. Start riding my new bike, too...
