Between 2 and 3. One is my main guitar which I play for all the "normal" songs, one is a guitar in open G tuning which I use for two or three songs I play slide on. And one is backup for my main.
We change setlists quite a bit and if the slide songs are not played, I only take my main guitar and the backup.

Depending on the size of the gig I take between 4 and 8 guitars, plus I take a bass as well. 3 are in different tunings and one an electric 12 string. The others are just different pickup combinations, like a strat, tele or gibson. As I normally dont have to carry them I dont worry about the weight. Thats what rodies and drummers are for.

I play a guitar for the mood I am in on the night.

I rarely play gigs anymore, but when I do, it's usually one tuning for the entire set, so I bring my main guitar and a backup.

When I used to gig, I would probably take anywhere from 2-4 guitars with me, depending on tunings, set-list, OR depending on how many guitars I felt like carrying home at the end of the night! :) 90% of the time, I'd only take 2 guitars...Main axe, and one for backup.

Because, at 2:00 AM there's nothing better than breaking down your Marshall stack, pedal board, cables, and packing up 8 guitars! And then have a nice HOUR RIDE HOME after that!

I take 2 . same tuning pretty much one Std, one drop D , but mostly for back up.

although i sometimes cant be assed on stage changing and use the same one for the whole set. can play all the std tuning songs bar one on the drop d one anyway

got a custom 7 string being built so trying to decide which one will be dropped from the gig travels

Played a show today. I took 7, and my wife took 3, our singer/other guitar player took 2 or 3, and the bass player took 2. There were a ton of axes on that stage.

I tried to play with one of my x gf but it just did not work. She would turn up to a gig late and then not be ready for that weeks set. It was a nightmare. Bro I give you kudos for being able to do it.

I could see that being a nightmare. Fortunately, I don't have that problem. And since we're (obviously) in the same house, we can practice at home a few days a week, so we're always ready for the sets.

The last time I played out I just took one, but it was just me playing the folk/rock thing on acoustic.

In the past I have taken 2 guitars, but I generally just play standard tuning.

Either 1, 2, or 3 depending on the gig. Never went beyond 3 though.
