It's official, we are now the United States of Russia.

Nobody is trying to stop Mel from saying what he wants - but it
sounds as if not everyone agrees that the press should also have
the right to freedom of speech when it comes to reporting it. It
can't just work one way.

Agreed! He should move to my neck of the woods - we love
racist, misogynistic, drunks like lil' Mel. He could probably run
for public office and be quite successful here. We don't believe in
infringing on the rights of free speakers. Just because it's full of
hate and racism doesn't mean he shouldn't be applauded for it.
Yep, he's a man's man amongst all them panty waisted liberals
who are askeered to speak the truth and keep their women in
line the good ol' fashioned way, with a smack or two. Why should
he have to be ashamed that the rest of the world knows how he
feels? We should just brush all that uner the rug and let Mel live
his life the way he sees fit. Heck, it ain't true no how!

Well, let's face it, the "PRESS" only reports about REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT THINGS, like who Kim Kardashian is blowing, or Mel Gibson calling someone a name, or what dress Lada Gulp-Gulp is wearing to an awards dinner, what baseball player makes the most money, and what car he drives....You know....REALLY important stuff! Yup, that's our awesome press! Reporting on what REALLY MATTERS! News at it's best! That's right! I mean, how could ANY of us possibly survive without knowing about Madonna's breast implants, or who won last week's episode of Dancing With The Skanks????

The news media SUX DONKEY BALLS, and can't reports a worthy story if it was stapled to their heads....and the sooner everyone realizes this, and stops watching all of the mainstream media channels, the world will be a MUCH better place.....

Time for all the Sheeple of the world to think outside the box, and start using the ol'gray-matter between the ears...think for yourselves, people.

Chris, for the most part, I agree with you. The press feeds us a
huge amount of garbage 24/7 on so many channels of television
and radio and in print, that it's mindboggling and numbing at
the same time. But to me there's a big difference between trivial,
useless info about who Kim K is sleepin' with or what GaGa is
wearing - and Mel spouting off drunken racist rants and beatin'
on his ol' lady. That's not trivial to me, and based on the things
you say and do here, I don't think you're the kind of guy who
would consider that trivial either. What if he were beatin' on your
sister or calling your dad a bunch of racist names and making
threats, or driving around drunk for the umpteenth time and
killed one of your friends? To me that's just not the same as
who's doin' who rumors and such. Folks complain about pamper
stars gettin' special treatment or bad behavior, but when one of
them gets called out on it - all of a sudden it's not important?
Seriously, I don't need nor want to know most of this stuff, and
for the most part I am happily out of touch with pop culture, but
I wouldn't want to hang out with or do business with a sociopath
like this, would you?

No, you're right, I don't agree with Mel's actions....Just think the media gives too much attention to the "elite". Obviously it's wrong what he did, and he needs help.

I try not to pay too much attention to the media circus. I guess I operate on the fringe of some of this stuff, but I really try to limit my exposure. But in Mel's case I think he deserved to have someone "spill the beans". It's my understanding that he had had a reputation for this kind of stuff throughout his career but that it had steadily got worse. I don't know if anyone has ever suggested he seek help or not. Many times folks of his stature surround themselves with yes men and so they never get any negative feedback. I don't have any vendetta against the guy - I've enjoyed some of his work. But, he really needs help and maybe if he gets enough pressure, even if it's from the press, he'll get the help he needs. I certainly don't blame the press for Mel's actions. I think that exposing him is the right thing to do, actually. As a public figure he makes his money based on public support of his projects. I think the public deserves to know when someone breaks the law like Mel has done and when he makes the kind of statements he's made. Those aren't private affairs like who's seeing who and that kind of stuff. So when someone behaves like Mel, I want to know so I can discontinue any support. I think most other people do too. I don't want to sound like a hipocrite - I'm not perfect, but if I said and did the things he's done recently, I'd have been out of work and drummed out of this business long ago.

Too bad, too, because I really like him as an actor, but, yeah, clearly the guy's got some screws loose....probably schizophrenic.

Totally! Baldwin is another of those cats who doesn't get any of my time. I'm pretty forgiving and realize that people have bad days. And being in a stressful occupation can make you lash out sometimes, but when you get guys like this, who obviously have ongoing problems, then the only way to keep my respect is to admit it, get help and turn your life around. I can admire that and maybe even forgive some of the past actions. Mel has a problem with the bottle and it seems to amplify some other issues that he has. It's gonna' take some work to untarnish that image now that he's let it go for so long. He's burned a lot of bridges and probably will never be able to completely lose that image that people have of him now. It's too bad. I, like you, liked some of his movies - he's played some memorable characters. Shame to see him just piss it away like this.
And, this being a music forum, I'll toss this out there: Axl Rose and the things he's done seem very similar. His latest stunt of not attending the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony just put an exclamation point on his long list of crazy. Look what he's become. The guy coulda' had it all at one point. That band could have been huge for a long time had he not let himself implode in public. Now he's just a laughing stock. I hope he gets a room with Baldwin and Mel. He's not the only one, but I don't wanna' sit here and just slam guys all day. He just happened to come to mind because I saw the R'n'R Hall show on cable the other night. I guess in the past it was easier to cover up stuff like this, but with the internet and a million channels of TV and countless newspapers and magazines, it's not the same anymore. I'm no high profile player, but I am very aware that people are always watching what I say and do when I play out, and I have to be careful of what I say and do. That's just a fact of life in the 21st century, I guess. There's always somebody around with a camera phone or something to catch you doing something dumb. I don't always agree with the intrusion it's become on everyone's privacy, but then again it's caught a lot of people doing things that deserve to be caught and exposed.

And, Mel's pretty much washed-up, as an actor....I believe his days of acting are probably over.

Mel was pushed to the limit while making his greatest film.........if Clint Westwood were attacked the same way, he'd pull out his magnum and......etc...etc...etc......
