IMHO its the worlds economy that is failing. My shares in the stock market were going to provide me with a very very comfortable income once I retired in 20 odd years time, now I will be working until I am just too old to teach.

What's actually killing the economy is the globalist view of greed. They'll stop at nothing to enslave the world's working people. No nation can survive the shutdown of manufacturing. A nation that produces software becomes soft in the head. The common man changes his approach when things go wrong, the politician doesn't.....he just gets the country deeper and deeper into the red.

While I do think that many companies are having a hard time these days, I truly think Kodak really blew-it by not really keeping up with their competition.

You go into any major electronics store, and ask for a decent camera, chances are, the salesperson isn't even going to mention the name Kodak in his reply! No, he's going to mention the TOP-3 "Canon, Minolta, or Nikon" but NOT Kodak.

Problem is, they are not into the whole DSLR scene, and that's a major problem! I mean, how can you be a MAJOR NAME BRAND in the camera industry, without having some really decent DSLR's??? That makes absolutely NO SENSE to me.....YEAH, you're gonna fail!

Pretty much all of their cameras are (in my opinion) "Kiddie Cameras".....You know, the kind you get for $59.00 at the local Pharmacy or, or something you buy for your 10 yr-old kid as a "1st Camera".

Kodak was a major force back in their heyday, but, when you're trying to compete with the likes of Canon, Minolta & Nikon, (even Panasonic) which are light-years ahead in camera technology, you're gonna fail, unless you keep up.

I think Kodak was headed for the downward spiral possibly 10-15yrs ago....maybe longer...

Just my 2c

I agree with you, if a company doesn't keep up with its competition then it's goodbye Charlie. But when government makes it difficult for American companies to compete then it's goodbye America. What's wrong with making it yourself.....isn't that what made America?

Very true....

Our gov't has made it damn near impossible for anyone to do anything, without some kind of license, permit, major tax, or HUGE FEE, that it's no wonder everyone just feels like throwing in the towel.

I believe that this is typical of business in general. The root cause to me really isn't the economy but technology. As technology has been advancing at an increasingly exponential rate, the economy can't keep up with technology. We see the economy suffer at the sacrifice of all of these advances.

A simple good example is this forum. Some old timers have returned with newbies randomly joining. Many have left because they want the latest and greatest. Unfortunately in order to stay in the forefront, a business has to more than just on the cutting edge. You can invent, but the profit comes from someone using your invention, not you keeping it for yourself and developing it.

The current human civilization is in a relatively rare period of peace and prosperity. Most people who have ever breathed and walked on this earth spent their lives figuring out how to find enough food, water and shelter each day and not to be eaten or killed by something or someone else.

Even if you have to work till the day you die here in the USA, or have other people care for you, you will have likely lived a much better life than 90%+ of everyone who ever lived.

Have a nice day.
