Recorded a short blues jam

Had an hour or so tonight so I began noodling on the piano, came up with a little riff, then put some drums, bass n guitar over it. This is the result. It's pretty short, more than a little sloppy, but i had fun with it regardless.

That's really cool. What modes are you playing in? What kind of gear are you using on it?

Hi Michael,

The soloing is pretty much Ab- pentatonic over the first set of chords: Ab-7, F# (or Gb) and then Eb pentatonic over the second phrase: Eb-7, Db, Eb-7, Db, Cb, Db. Not sure what mode that would be.

I record using my Line6 Toneport into Sony Acid Pro. Drums are Toontracks EZ Drummer, Bass (generic no name build) and Guitar (Charvel Mod 5)were recorded straight into the Line6 with FX (Verb and Delay) added in Sony. Keys are straight from my Korg SP-250 into the Toneport as well. Having a hard time getting a good line recording from the keys. They end up sounding thin to my ears and very non organic. Not sure how I'm going to fix that.

Very nice. Love the sound of the Line 6. What amp are you modeling?

I'm learning more about changing keys to go better over different progressions. Your playing has a lot of depth, I really like it.

I'm not the guy to talk to about what keys to solo over what chords as I primarily play from the "gut" but I often try to sing the solo before I play it. That's what has helped me write more interesting solos. I also sometimes imagine another instrument playing as well, like a sax or trumpet and try to emulate that on the guitar which has created new voicings and opened up my vocabulary a little bit.

I used the spinal puppet amp for the lead with the gain only slightly below half and used the 1967 4x12 greenback cab with an off axis sm57 mic. For the clean rhythm guitar it was the Roland Jazz amp with some chorus and virtually no gain.

Just popping in after being away for a bit and what a nice find! Great sound, Kevin. You suppose you might want to turn this into an add-a-track?

Love this sound you are getting!

Alrighty - I lengthened it a little bit, stripped it bare and am giving it to you guys. Hope to hear some real soulful jamming over this. It's got a LOT of breathing room for some good, expressive playing so have FUN!! =)
