Yo Randy, as you mention, prices are based on Supply & Demand. You can have a real hunk-O' Crap, but, if it's a RARE Hunk-O-Crap, it can be worth a ton of $$$!
As in my own instance:
I own a 1929 Epiphone "Recording C" Acoustic guitar. Worth a decent amount of $$, but, you can't play it. It's in lousy condition. But, I had Mandolin Brothers (Staten Island, NY) appraise it, a while back. They told me not to restore it. It's worth more in the condition it's in.
It's basically a museum piece, and nothing more. But, to me, it's worth more than that...
You see, my Grandfather bought it brand new. He actually bought it so his brother could play.
His brother then used it in the Big Band (Jazz Band) he used to play in. He used it for quite some time & it shows.... Before my Uncle passed away, he gave it back to my Grandfather, and then my Grandfather gave it to me right before "he" passed away. So, it has a lot of family history there. Which is worth more to me than the money.
