My battery is not holding a charge for very long on my 30GB Ipod. I found all kind of DIY kits on the internet. Has anyone here ever replaced your own battery?

Man been so long since I've been on here...

The batteries on all iPods, late or early models, are very hard to replace, even by DIY kits. On the Apple website there is a Out of Warranty Battery Replacement:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/battery/
They send you a new or refurbished iPod without all of your music or videos in exchange for the old one. I think it is a great deal, 59 bucks for a basically new iPod? Steal...
Hope that helps!

I searched on the internet and saw all of the DIY, so........I got brave and ordered one from Ebay for about $7. It just came in the mail today. I probably wont get to it right away. The Ipod is still working, it just won't hold a charge very long. We'll see how it goes......

Good Luck with the battery change. My son's iPod is a 30G also and will probably have that same issue soon so I am curious to see how it goes for you.

You can see videos of the repair job on youtube. With all of your electronic repairs, I'm sure it'd be easy for you.

BTW- I just sent you a PM....

Yeah, it's about 3 years old. It'll hold a charge for about a day. It used to hold it for a lot longer.

Three years unfortunately is the average life of a lithium battery. Is it the video iPod as well?

My 30G video lasted me 5 years and now it is completely shot... No charge for more than 2 minutes, ha. I guess if you're adept at electrical repairs a DIY kit would be the easiest and cheapest choice, but if you're not I think that the $59 out-of-warranty iPod replacement would be the way to go. Good luck, all the same.

I've changed batteries in my iPods and in several of my friends and
thought it was simple enough. No reason you couldn't do it, to.
