U2 360 tour

I just saw U2 on their current tour (Thursday) .. it was pretty amazing! I had my doubts about the big stadium thing, but they put a lot into it.

Edge used 8 or 9 guitars to replicate most of the tunes similar to the recordings, and they changed arrangements on a couple things to keep it fresh.

Rolling Stone has a writeup on it - kinda neat to see good snapshots of the show. Opening band was Muse - I am not familiar with them, but interesting to see someone new ( or new to me !)

That must have been real fun. I love U2! It is one of bands that sound fresh everytime you here them, even the old stuff. I can hear the bass line for "New Year's Day" playing in my head as I type this.

I have to admit, I've always hated U2 with a firey passion that burns in the pit of my soul. Then, yesterday, I hear this brand new song, kind of a techno thing, and wow, it's really good. Hmmmmm, might re-think some things. I just got so turned off by Pride in the name of love, which I detest, but have forgoteen about songs like I Will Follow and Bullet the Blue Sky, which are brilliant.

Its interesting that you like a new tune - so far this album is not selling well for them. I think that they like to change things up from time to time, perhaps losing some fans, but could be gaining some too. I think they have 3 songs getting video and airplay, but none is a big hit so far.

Which tune is it? " Get on your Boots " ? That one is kinda techno and fast.

They have a tune called " I'll Go Crazy if I Don't Go Crazy Tonight" , but its mid tempo and kinda gentle for that sort of lyric. I enjoy that one.

It's the "I'll go crazy" one. Good song.

I don't really hate them, but most of their songs bore me. I wouldn't but an album, but they do have one or two really good tunes. I might like the one you are referring to. If you remember the name, please post.

Thanks,
Dale

I feel the same about U2. I happen to really like TWO songs from them:

Sunday Bloody Sunday & New Year's Day

Man, those songs were excellent! I could care less about the political factors in those 2 songs, I just really thought the music was KILLER!

Even "Ride Your Wild Horses" was a decent song!

Now that I look back, after their first two albums, I really thought they might have kept that "rock edge" that they had, but, in my eyes, they kinda petered out.

Plus, I can't stand Bono. LOL :) hehehe

But, this is just my lame opinion..... :)

Chris

Like all music for me it is the frame of mind that I have to be in to enjoy it. When I started to really listen to U2, I found something in their arrangements that just made ecstatic. That was all parts were independant of each other and each voice was needed to make the composition whole. Even with the use of Edge's background vocal, it is just haunting to hear it above and over Bono's lead vocals. His vocal harmonization just great!

That's funny because I love "Pride". But then we all have own favorites and songs that we can't stand as well. "I will follow" is awesome as well as "Bullet the Blue Sky". To me "Bullet's" bass is classic! It is just such a haunting line. What is really cool is looping that bass line with a drum beat and solo over it. Lots of fun!

They did " New Years Day" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday" , lots of hits, etc.. I won't give too much away in case anyone wants to go!!

I have seen Bela Fleck twice, during his New Grass Revival days ( I got to meet him too, seems like a nice low-key guy) and with the Flecktones 3 or 4 years back.

He also has a style and tone that I can recognize when I hear his recordings.

That guy can play!!
