I caught part of a live Jeff Beck show on VH1c the other night. It was "Jeff Beck- Live @ Ronnie Scott's". I have been a fan of his for a long time, but I have to say, that he keeps getting better and better. He has always been great, but I was so moved by his playing like never before. (Those moments don't come along that often) He has so much heart and soul in his playing. His tone is amazing. The way he plays melodic lines by bending one note, or using the whammy bar to do the same. He can play so beautifully, and then there's that quirky-ness about him. Yen and yang.

I was thinking about it, and I would say the one word that epitomizes Jeff Beck is .. nuance. He has so much detail in his dynamics and melodies. Unbelievable. I gotta go by the DVD.

Now that I would love to see! If that show is on DVD, I too will have to go and get it as well. You are exactly right Dan about JB, his detail to dynamics and melodies are phenomenal. Plus his setup is as basic as can be - guitar - amp. I don't recall him using effects at all.

He was using Marshalls and a Strat, but he did have a few effects. From the part that I saw, he used a delay and then some kind of Leslie/Univibe effect. He used them very sparsely though...... and of course, no pick.

here's a tune from the DVD:

Yep that is the way I remember him on one of the late night shows (Can't remember as it was along time ago, Tony Hymas and Terry Bozzio supporting - Guitar Shop Tour). No Pick, that is so cool as it gives him all kinds of control with string attack, volume swells (that explains the delay) and trem bar usage.

IIRC he used the Fender Bassman's for the Eric Clapton festival - Crossroads.

Too bad you couldn't see what effect gear he was using - I always enjoy that. Knowing Beck, he probably uses the Leslie.

Out of the fun, I did a search and found this.

I'll check out the tune when I get home.

I wish that I could've seen that. Maybe on the DVD that Dan mentioned. JB is just a different and very innovative player. Maybe working on old vintage cars does it. After all both Danny Gatton and Jeff Beck are 1) great players and 2) afficianado's of old coupes.

Cool video. Most of his techniques are beyond my tiny comprehensive capacity.

That brought me to some Tal wilkenfeld videos also.

Pretty awesome. I'm surprised I've never heard of her. It's refreshing to see a young woman that wants to jam, over becoming the next pop star.
