I can't seem to put it down lately....namely Derek Trucks' newest effort put forth to our mushy brains.

It's called "Already Free". That guy has some serious soul and great chops. His wife performs with him and his band and they spend over 300 days a year on the road.

If you like the blues, get this album asap.

We drove 13 hours to see Derek and his band at 'Live on the Green' in Nashville last week. We discovered that the leader of the opening trio was a guy that also previously joined the Allman Brothers for 3 years before Derek... named Jack Pearson. His wife Elizabeth plays bass for him. I pulled him up on youtube...very jazzy/bluesy. Jack and his drummer joined Derek for 4 songs... amazing chemistry. Derek said about 10 words all night.. 2 and a half hour show for FREE. We were about 20 feet from the stage... great show .. left there and went to 'BB Kings club on 2nd street 3 blocks away. The tough part was driving home and starting back to work tomorrow.

Kenny

P.S. Trucks wife is Susan Tedeschi, who has her own band. Her chops on the turquoise Tele are not too bad. They usually tour seperate, but cameo each others shows from time to time. They recently did a little Austin club together, mostly acoustic...very different styles but sounded great together.

It's getting harder and harder to find new bluesmen. I really like Derek and this other chap, Joe Bonamassa. Two other cool bluesmen are Larry McCray and Little Jimmy King, who unfortunately passed away.

Trucks is cool! I have his first two CD's and the kid can play. As mentioned in another post his wife is Susan Tedeschi who performs out here in So Cal every so often. Great stuff Kevin!

I'm a big fan of Trucks and Bonamassa. I saw Trucks live about 2 years ago and it was incredible. His band was slammin'too.
