Two guitars were stolen from Rick Richardson's (AB member) band Spank. They were stolen Sunday night(?) from the place where they have band practice in Mechanicsburg PA. I know the chances are pretty slim of ever seeing these axes again. But, here is a picture of them in case you run across them on the web:

Thanks!

Dave

P.S. The base runner is clearly out!

Ironic. You stole Dave Magaro's name. I bet he got mad and took that gear. That's where I would look first.

:)

Seriously as a victim of gear theft, it really isn't funny. Sorry dudes.

My prayers go out to them as I too was a victim of two stolen guitars some 20 years ago. Sigh.......

No you never do get past it. I moved from Hawaii to LA set to study at Musicians Institute and my spirit and soul was ripped right out from under me. The guitars were not only special but custom done for me with the specs that I wanted. But life does move on as all I have is a memory and pictures to show that I owned them at one time.

I love my new Carvin Custom Shop guitar, because they offer the "SNAGG System" on all their custom shop models.

It's sort-of an anti-theft (electronic tracking system), that works with Police, Pawn Shops & Music Stores, via a hand-held scanning unit. It's NOT a real-time GPS unit, BUT, if your instrument ever does get stolen, and if someone tries selling it to a pawn shop, or music store, it can be traced back to it's original owner, and authorities will know it's been stolen.

GREAT IDEA!

PS: You can even go directly to SNAGG's website, and actually purchase a package of SNAGG's (VERY CHEAP!) and install them yourself on each instrument, and then register each microchip online!

GREAT IDEA!

I have to agree with Chris about the SNAGG system. I purchased the chips and the reader from StewMac and implanted all my gear with them. I feel all guitars should be implanted by the factory and all second hand dealers should be made to scan the items. Once the chip is in and a drop of glue on top the chip cant come out unless drilled.

I am also offering the implants to my students and most have taken the offer up, so you can make a few bucks from the system.

Hope you get your gear back. Fingers crossed.

Chris,

we spoke about the system about 18 months ago and since then it paid for itself in less than 3 months.

Plus the parents of my students are the ones who really think its important and they tell their friends and their kids then come to me. Its great all the way round.

Hey Warren,

Do you "NEED" the hand-held "reader" device, or can they all just register online, instead?

Chris,

You don't really need the reader if you just want to put the chip in your equipment. I suppose its a bit like chipping an animal as you don't need the reader with the animal and would never use it.

The reason I have the reader is so that when I chip equipment I know 1. Its working, 2. The ID Number and 3. That if its stolen I can possibly scan the item IF I find it in a store/home and provide the ID card to the seller there and then.

I had about 10K worth of stuff taken about 2 years ago which is why I purchased the whole package. I know it wont stop theft, but at least I have a shot at getting something back if its trying to be sold in the open.

Hi Warren,

Funny, I just read on SNAGG's website, that they're trying to find a different supplier for the reader. Apparently, many folks are complaining about the $250 price tag! :) hehe

Chris,

When I decided to buy the system is was '$450 all up Vs $10,000.... mmmmmmm the $450 sounds like a good investment'.

What is funny is that after talking to you about the reader and the cat bit, I took a guitar to a mate who is a veterinarian and his animal scanner read the chip in my guitar. His was this high tech thing though so it may have had more frequency response as mine wont read my cat.

Anyway in the end it was a good choice for me because of the loss I had gone through.
