so, check it out, this is my pedal board chain Guitar> Line 6 Wireless Guitar System> Dunlop Crybaby From Hell Wah> Boss CS-3 Compressor> Ibanez TS-9 Overdrive (for lead boost)> MXR 10 band EQ> BBE Sonic Stomp> Boss DD-7 Delay> ISP Sonic Decimator Noise Suppressor> Boss TU-2 Tuner> Amp
The issue im having is with the delay....i make all my settings on the dd-7 on my gain channel and it sounds great (especially with the boss footswitch for tap tempo!) however, when i switch to my clean channel the delay is nearly non-existent... i know the quickest solution would be to toss a second delay, like the Line 6 DL4 delay modeler (which i have on hand) into the effects loop for the clean channel (my amp is a Krank Krankenstein+ modified with independent effects loops for each channel) but im wanting to avoid unneccessary cabling and power consumption. I put the compressor in the chain to hopefully compensate for the assumed signal loss going into the delay on the clean channel but to no avail....the delay is still virtually non existent on my clean channel. Besides with the all tube head a compressor isnt too useful and the cs-3 will most likely be leaving my pedalboard... so, any ideas? suggesstions? just curious for some feedback in general concerning the whole rig... For the gear junkies: I use Schecter Devil Custom with EMG 81/85 pickups, Schecter Hollywood Classic w/ Seymour Duncan JB/SH pickups, Schecter S-1 Elite w. Gibson vintage '59 pickups, SKB PS-45 pedal board, the [pedals listed above], Krankenstein+ 120watt all tube head (6550 power tubes, 4 12ax7 preamp section) Krankenstein+ 4x12 cab with Eminence Texas Heats Thanks for your time, Jeremy

Maybe try and disconnect all of the effects and try the DD-7 by itself on the clean channel and see if it works, If it does, you know that it is the tuner as you said you added the compressor after the initial problem started. So, try that and if it does work, try disconnecting your tuner for playing and reconnecting it for tuning times only, as that is the last effect in the chain before the signal hits the amp. If that still doesn't work, try re-adjusting your setting on the amp, because maybe it has too low of a frequency to recognize the signal changes, so you might want to turn if the gain a bit on the channel and see if that helps. If nothing works, get back to me and we can see what we can do.

I would put your tuner first, then your compressor, everything else in your chain is fine where it is. You really don't want your compressor last as compressing your delay will squeeze all of your signal down. Delay's work well uncompressed or when the compression is before the delay.
I hope that helps! |

Try adjusting your delay feed with your amp in the clean mode first. Your send and recieve levels is what is critical. Why are you using a noise suppressor? When you are in the clean mode there should be no noise. If so, you have to much compression on and therefore the compressor should work together so adjust those first.
I would eliminate compressor and noise suppressor and concentrate on a good clean sound. Then I would adjust your lead sound accordingly. If you can only achieve one good sound - clean or dirty, you will need to get that second delay and split the signal. That will lead to a bigger headache - sometimes. |

Just a thought....
What about making 2 chains - one clean, one dirty and using some sort of electronic switch in front of them?
Perhaps a third chain for a tuner? It seems like if you get too many pedals in a line, the sound gets too mushy and indistinct sometimes. This way you may have 2 or 3 pedals in the dirty chain, 2 or 3 in the clean tone chain. |

That's a good thought, and a good pedal for that is the BOSS LS-2. The pedal is not a complete router, but uses to send and two returns to enable two different effects loops to be switched from with the pedal. This is how it looks.
send----return send----return out---------in
So just hook up two different effects lines and when you switch from clean to dirty, just switch this one as well and you have your different effects line active as compared to your dirty line. |
