Did you get a chance to check it out? I'm hoping for some positive feedback (but fearing the negative stuff- LOL). Hey, when you put yourself out there, you have to expect both, right?

I got a chance only to hear the first song and then I had to leave to pick up my son. I don't remember the title but it sounded cool. I will go back to listen again. I do have a question, did you DI the bass? His sound was running a little hot for the mix and it was thumping at times. Did you use a compressor on the bass to even it out?

Basically, I ran it straight into the board. In the future, it's all going to go right into a fostex 8 track, and them I'll compress it in the mixdown. It does get a little thumpy at times. He just changed from a Yamaha bass that was pretty tame, to an Epiphone Thunderbird bass. It's got this agressive, Steve Harris kind of sound. I love it, but yeah, it's hot in the mix here and there.

Try a compressor before the recording next time. In other words, try both. It doesn't matter which bass he uses, its the signal. You music will sound will be smoother overall and you can still capture the Steve Harris thump. With tape and a hot signal, you may experience crosstalk where the signal may bleed into the next channel making it difficult to mix levels.

Compression on a final mix helps give the music the umpff sound - sort of in your face that everyone loves. But it will not correct the recording errors. If you were ever to master this, it would be a nightmare unless you gave up the mastertracks.

After listening to your demo, you and your bands songwriting have alot of influences. The songs ranged from 70's Punk, 80's New Wave to 90's Alternative. Occasionally I would hear a trace of 80-90's metal in there but with a slant.

Each song has its own unique sound and charactor and here are my thoughts to towards some of your tunes.

"Step" reminds me of old U2
"On my own" - the Cure
"Splinter" - 80's Heavy Metal
"Life in a Box" - The Ramones
"I wanna Run" - Motorhead missing Lemmy.
"Collisions with Raindrops" - slow Metallica
You all had an interesting take on Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" - Bad Religion.

Anyway remember that opinions are like.....well you know the rest. The only critique I can truly find is that the style of the songs are very eclectic. The don't have the uniformity of one style but are instead many. There is nothing wrong with that cause the songs are probably written over several years and shows the many phases that any musician goes through. It is hard to target who your audience is or what age group you want to market your music at. After all, selling music is all part of marketing. I hope that helps!

Wow, very interesting since you list some of my favorite bands in there. Strange, because I didn't see that influence in those songs.

I listen to a lot of different music, and that comes across in how I write. All of those songs were actually written in a span of a few months. I've never thought about a target market, which has been an advantage. We draw a crowd from 16-60, I swear to God. It's weird. Everyone has a favorite song, and yet likes most of the others. Most of our crowd is my age, late 30's-early 40-'s, but I like the diverse crowd. We tend to draw the largest crowd of the night, but I market the band really hard. At 40, I'm not looking to be a rock star or "make it," I just love writing and playing music. The fact that dozens of people out here dig it is a bonus. I'm hoping that the number grows, and we can play more than one bar! We play the same damn place every 2 months, and it's getting old! LOL

Thank you for your feedback, it means a lot to me.

Having fun is what it is all about. I'm 48 and still rocking it out. It really doesn't matter what age you are.

As for target market, it is something I learned when I did part time radio for about 7 months. Radio station focus on a target audience for their demographics. That audience is where the money comes from whether it be gender, age group, ethinicity, you can figure out the rest.

Needless to say, word of mouth is always the best savior!
