Free recording software

Hi all I am looking for some free or cheap recording software. I want to record voice onto my computer to be downloaded to a CD. Does not have to be music quality software, its just speaking that I need to record for now.
I tried Audacity but there is a decided lack of instruction/how to use info out there for this. The guy who wired our soundboard left the right speaker channel for a line out hookup and I think I fried the soundcard in two laptops with it and audacity. At any rate audacity would not record on either laptop after that even with just a computer mic.
Thanks before hand for the advice/help
Chet

There used to be a program called MultiTrack Studio that was pretty good, but not sure if its still around. There is also n-Track which I think has a shareware version.

wikipedia has an article on this stuff !

Windows has a built-in voice recorder. It's in the acessories or entertainment part of the start menu.

There must be more to what you need than I'm gathering...

I've got an Ableton Lite program that I've never used...came with my TonePort. I use Audacity, so the disc is still sitting in it's cover.

If you want it, let me know and I'll send it to ya.

Later,
Edd

Just don't send him Cubasis. That would be a mean thing to do to anyone!
