Hi Ricky,

Sure, CD's are helpful, I have learned some stuff from DVD's, books, etc etc

The most important thing is that you learn to do things properly, right from the start. (Proper technique, proper holding of the pick, etc) I'd say that the DVD approach is better in that respect, then learning from a book.

My thinking is:
Learning is learning, no matter how you slice it. :)

We can ALL learn from each other.

I have one of the CDs from Nextlevelguitar.com. Heart's Barracuda. It's 2 hours long, video, mp3. Really nicely done. To check out some of his stuff, for free, go to Riffeo.com and search for Next level guitar. His stuff should start popping up. He puts some of his shorter lessons there to create interest in his site.

Thanks guys,
I do think technique is important. I am bad about just playing along with a song without thought to doing it right.

Hey Ricky,
Now, I don't know how long you have been playing, so this might be old news to you (please forgive me)

Something worth mentioning is "Ear training". This is a very important skill/tool, as well. Take a scale, or some scales you have recently learned, turn on a song, and play along to it, using those scales or modes, or whatever. Doesn't matter WHAT kind of song it is.

Do this often. It will not only help you getting used to playing in different keys, but, it will help your improvising skills, too.

Take care!
Chris

Hey Ricky
I had a set of CD's callede Interactive Guitar that were excellent. THey had a great teaching setup and let you plug in your guitar and play the exercises and then the computer grades them and tells you what you need to work on (timing, tone, clarity etc) It was pretty neat and I enjoyed playing around with them. One of my old students has them now and uses them all the time.
Hope this helps
Chet
