les paul style guitar neck angle

How do I achieve the correct neck angle on my home made Les Paul style guitar. I'm not doing something right. I think I need some kind of jig or something. I really could use some kind of picture. I have the Stewart Mac plans for a Les Paul but I still have the same problem.

I forgot to add that if shims are not available I have seen and used myself guitar picks and place them at the heel of the neck. They come in so many different thickness's now that better neck tilt variations are available as well as accuracy. |

According to my research, the angle is 4 to 6, depending on which years and which production plant made the Les Paul.
Not sure if that helps or not. A steeper angle is associated with a higher bridge, and sometimes more tone and sustain. |
