Tommy Emmanuel

I know that this guy has been around, but I've only recently found out about him. One of my students (I'm a math, not music teacher) turned me on to him. In this clip, he takes two of my favorite fingerstyle pieces and just owns them!

At 52, there aren't too many players that I want to "grow up to be like", but this guy is one of them!

Check him out.

I hope I got that link right...it's the first time I've tried.

Now I know the real reason I've applied to move to Aus. It has nothing to do with the problems here in South Africa - it's to move closer to Tommy!

Man, that's the second phenomenal guitarist I've discovered in as many weeks!

Who was the other? I've been out of action for a while and am just starting to get juiced about playing and players again.

Audley Freed. If you track back thru the Artist's Forum, you might find the thread. Otherwise, hit YouTube, type in Audley Freed, and check him out for yourself - really worth the look.

I just checked. He has a "Private engagement" in Nashville in August. He has a sold out show at Jorma Koukenan's Fur Peace Ranch in May. I'm bummed!!! That's only about 2.5 hours from Cincinnati!!! I would've loved to see that.

Maybe next year!

He's showing he's in the U.S. In May and June with a lot of Days off, so maybe he'll fill in a few of those days.

I think I'll be checking his site out more often

You need to come see Tommy in Elizabethtown KY in Feb. He comes there every year (early Feb.) as part of an acoustic guitar master series (tickets are like $20 for a 2-3 hour show!). He also has a "Tommyfest", a workshop over the weekend, it is great. He plays 3 shows, it's a smaller venue, very up close & personal. Elizabethtown is about 4 hours away from Columbus, you & your wife would love it.

Hmmm....ok,, It takes me 2 hours to get to Louisville from Cincinnati, so, add another, what 45 minutes for E-town. And the trip from Cincinnati to Columbus is around 1 hr, 45 minutes.... What altitude do YOU drive at !! HA!!

I'm sure I'd love it. But my wife..?? for some reason, she is not into live performance stuff. But I think in the case of Tommy E. well, I can't believe she wouldn't be impressed with his playing. Plus, My nephew and his wife just moved there. They just got back from a tour of Iraq. He's now out of the Army and she has another year to go. But that would be a cool trip to take and meet up with them.

Thanks Big Time for the info!! I'll pencil it in and make sure the idea is brought up in plenty of time , like say, in the FALL!!!!
