Made A GC Purchase Recently?

Rumor has it that GC will no longer be haggling on prices.

Yes, I actually did. I haven't had many bad experiences there, but I don't really buy a lot. I don't know about haggling because I usually don't buy anything that isn't on sale anyway. Maybe if I had a problem with something and had to bring it back, or something similar, I might have had different experiences.

you're right about them not spending much for it.

Just as a experiment I brought in my '68 Gibson ES 335 and asked about it as a trade in. They wanted to offer me $1,800.00 as a trade in or $1,300.00 cash. Those whoe have seen this guitar known it is quite cherry for a 40 year old guitar.

I just laughed and asked if I could have some of what he was smoking because it had to be pretty darn good, packed up my guitar and left him standing there.

That's true. The salesman showed me a used guitar, but I didn't try to haggle over the price - partly because I wasn't really looking to buy a guitar that day, but mainly because it was the UGLIEST guitar I have ever seen!

"No more haggling on prices".....Well, that doesn't really surprise me.....In my business (appliances) they're putting a stop to that, as well.

Who do you think wants the haggling to end, retailers or the

hehe, Obviously, the retailers. It's the same in my business. We're actually doing away with haggling (to a degree) because the appliance business has gotten to the point where there's absolutely no profit margin anymore, so, many companies (manufacturers) are going to UMRP pricing.

So, we (retailers) are not allowed to sell many items below this price, or we can lose the line.

GC be the Devil.

To carry The Gibson line, a $100,000 buy in is required.

Why does Gibson do this? They don't want to service the small "mom & pop" stores. Orders are slow and few between. GC can order hundreds of units at once, on regular basis.

Funny, a manufacturing company thinking so much of themselves to treat folks like that.

Well, those days are coming to an end. Samick and Cort have invested Billions into China and state of the art manufacturing.

For 80$ wholesale, (ie Staag or Greg Bennett etc.) you can buy a Les Paul copy that will rival any American Made Les Paul rolling off the line today in tone and quality.

I know this, because the music shop where I teach "dares to compare" by displaying an 1800$ Les Paul beside a Staag model that sells for 289$ with hardshell case that is ,...and I'm sad to say, its equal in practically every way.

Hey Chris,

My friend has many original LP's, AND he recently purchased 2 (early 1980's era) TOKAI "Love Rock" LP copies.

The Tokai's absolutely ROCK!

The quality is insane!
