Hi. I just got back from a music store here in Fukuoka, Japan and I was surprised to see that the low end (10 and 15 watts) amps from Marshall are now made in Vietnam. Although I didn't try one out, (all the guitars were locked up, very common pactice here in many stores) I must say they really looked great and were quiet heavy too. Well I just thought I would pass this along. By the way, Epiphones SG's made in China, and believe me they are really NICE guitars are 22,800 yen about $200 US dollars. How much do they go for where you are from?

Hi Warren. Are those SG's made in China or S. Korea or America. The Epihones coming out of S. Korea are on average $150 more than the ones coming out of China. But the only difference i can tell is the the finishes might be of a higher quality. Material wise that is. Workmanship is very good from the manufactures coming out of both countries. Its just that labor cost now in Korea is higher and maybe shipping cost too.

Wow, I'm blown away that Marshall would stoop to having amps made in anywhere but England. That's a first. I have to wonder if they're real, or illegal knockoffs? I know that's a common thing in China. You can get one of those knockoff watches. It says Rolex, it looks like one, but isn't quite one. Maybe that's why they keep the amps locked up, so you can't look at the back of them. I would check with Marshall before buying one. You don't want a warranty issue! Even the MG series here in the US is pretty prone to failure. I'd hate to see what an offshore one would be. Ask to see the warranty card before purchasing it, too. Not telling you that stuff in your country isn't good (since most of the best stuff comes out of Japan to begin with), just trying to get you to be careful. Good luck!

The litle Marshall amps seem to control the low end of the market at the present time. Much marketing in the magazines. Fender was popular but haven't seen them in the music stores for a couple of years. And I forgot what country they were made in. (not US that I am sure of) Most low end amps (name brand, from BC Rich, Peavy and so on manly come now out of any asian countries including Malaysia. Average prices range from $40 to about $240 for a top end 20 to 30 watt amp. Construction wise this amps are made to last. Speakers, just take the stock speakers out and put in some Celestions and you got a real desenct amp for your money. They all come with a lot a nobs and fancy gadgets too! Yamaha amps, sorry, don't know anything about them.

What about Roland or Line 6 amps? If you can get the Line 6 Spider series over there, I would take a very close look.

Is Yamaha even making amps anymore? I know they probably have a little one that they re-brand for a starter kit, but I haven't seen a real Yamaha amp in ages here in the US.
