FretBuzz: WholeNote Forum Message |
To this (generally) fine community of musicians: If any of you have any ability to contact The Creators of this site, please let them know that we need a little help here!
Hangin' out here is starting to feel like a Mad Max movie . . . stranded in the desert at the mercy of bullies, and no authority to stop them.
It's one thing when a few ego-pumped gunslingers want to take pot shots at each other . . . but when the anonymous cowards start heaping abuse on an emotionally over-reactive member, it's clear that anarchy reigns.
It's very sad to see the deterioration in the quality of the community, but maybe that's the way the social dynamics naturally evolve without intervention.
So far, my efforts to message The Creators have gone without response. Is it just me, or are we truly on our own here?
It may be time for those of us who like to chat about "life, music, and everything" to set up an alternate message board, similar to what ABer's did in the days when the site crashed more frequently than it does now.
I really hope someone catches the attention of Christopher/Sean/Jim soon. Otherwise . . . I'll see you in the funny papers.
Tracy

Your post alone might be enough to make some of the people here put their ego's into neutral. Why would anyone want to let their ego guide them anyways...it's the source of all our inner struggles and problems. I live in a state of co-operation with universe instead of compitition and the best just seems to show up for me. People, money, projects, apartments with the right rent and what I desire. Live like a cell, in co-operation, not ego mode!! Thanks Tracy!!. STeve |

Talked to Jim about it quite a while ago ... no reaction.
As far as I'm concerned, this place is already dead and has been for quite a while. I doubt it's possible to resurrect it again as most people have already found other sites. There aren't enough good folks here any longer who can stand up against misuse in a way that does not lead to a week-long flame-fest.
It's hardly worth logging on and looking at the messages any longer.
Funny thing is, when a few proposed moderators a while ago, most of the others scorned the idea and said that the community would be able to police the site itself. Sadly, it turned out to be NOT possible. The decline was slow (an achievement of the community), but it was inevitable. |

This makes me wonder even more about our role as lab rats (link to my post on research on internet communities).
Maybe we're STILL part of a study to see what happens when moderators are removed. Maybe they don't really care what happens to the forums if the interactive lessons are still the biggest draw here. As long as folks are buying from Active Musician, it could well be that the forums are irrelevant anymore.

Wow--hi Tracy, and the rest of you! I only come here once in a blue moon now. I'm sorry to see the downhill slide of this once great community. Hey, for those interested, I like guitar.zentao.com. I can't remember how to do html anymore on this site, but if you cut and paste that link into your browser, then click on jam session , you'll get to a well-run forum that has hands on moderators. Just look for the user name Jubal and you've got me over there. |

Hi Shane, welcome back to the dustbowl . . . sorry you had to find the place mostly deserted, or folks hiding under something.
I always thought your absence around here was because you had your priorities in order. :)
I'm of the opinion that we're still part of a socialogical experiment here. My response is that if The Creators are not going to provide a moderated site where folks can share music safely without getting their personal stuff hacked, then I'm not going to provide them with free content in the way of lessons to attract people to their commercial site, ActiveMusician.
Hope you get some answers to your lesson question! I wish I had more time to learn guitar, but I've been taking double bass lessons and playing in the local symphony orchestra, and that has taken all my practice time.
Nice to see you here again, in any case!

Sounds like you have a lot going on, and that your musicianship is still marching along. That's cool. About my priorities being in order--maybe you're right, I mean my absences have generally been because I've been doing other things that may or may not have been more important than conversing about guitars. Wait a minute---nothing's that important. ROFL! |
