Well...

The only type of performance that would motivate me to want to play the bass is a person playing extremely rapidly with accuracy, slapping and popping the bass with ease by herself or himself. That wouldn't describe the video though.

However that video had a really enthusiastic song. It was an exemplary!

Larry Graham is recognized as being the first to develop this style of playing. Many have done more with it since. I find it fascinating from a historical perspective.

I guess guitar players and bass players are apples and oranges in many ways. :) I can enjoy fabulous guitar players without wishing I could play that way myself.

For a completely different example of fabulous bass playing, check out this video:

U. of Michigan Recitals/Kennedy Center

This clip requires Real Player. It is a performance at the Kennedy Center by the U Michigan School of Music. The bass solo runs from 27:30 to 34:30 on this 60 minute clip. (Just push the slider ahead to 27:30 ... it may take a few seconds for the video to load to that point).

fast and accurate playing doesn't motivate me. Sometimes it discourages me, or imresses me, but I really don't want to play the guitar all that much after seeing a really quick player.

A simple song has inspired me to want to play bass. I just haven't got a bass guitar yet.

What makes you want to play fast so badly Adrian?

I have this on DVD (Joe Satriani) and this part of Stu Hamm's solo I play (DVD) the most. I find it very moving.

However, it hasn't motivated me to play the bass but I'm sure it will for actual bass players...

One of my AB buddies sent me that one some while back. I just sit back and enjoy the ride with a big ol' smile on my face.

Thanks for sharing, "Ant," or Pete, or whoever.

hahaha - it's always been Pete. Being away from the 'net' all this time, I didn't miss that nic 'ant' at all.

Some still call me that ('net') but like I've said (even back then), I'm not known in person as 'ant'.

Pete

P.S. Sorry to use your thread for that vid. I guess I should of started a new one called, "Favourite Bass Solos."
