I am totally lazy with chords and simplify when I can, for ease of changes and not having to think too much. An good example is the major chord progression of D/A/C/G.
Geoff :-)

I agree but for developing speed and finger flexibility it is sometimes necessary to fool around with various shapes. If you want simplicity use 1 and 3:

D
A
C
G

or 1 and 5
D
A
C
G

If you want pure simplicity :

D
A
C
G

Do you ever play these chords, or just post them up from time to time?

There'd be no point in posting if one didn't play them. The trick is to make them flow smoothly with slight of hand movements which can only be accomplished through practise. I like to use common chord shapes but I really like these other shapes too.

When I'm playing along with Ray Charles' Definitive Soul Collection (my current favorite CD)I'll most definitely not use too many of those chords. Take care.
