It's good to know they work. I've got a couple of Stock Brandy bottles with just the right diameter for my pinky.

Here's a really neat bottle-cutting jig I came upon. It's super cheap to make and it works.

I like your idea for rounding off the sharp edges.

I'll vouch for that along with Marc. Those diamond dentist drills are great and perfect with the Dremel. I made a glass slide out of an old pill bottle not so long ago using exactly that method for cutting the glass.
Finished the edges off with a Fine emery cloth worked great.
Those drill bits aren't cheap to buy thought. Purchased mine in a packet of ten from a Dental suppliers a long time ago. Dental tools are great for doing all sort of stuff , engraving and modelling in plaster etc ..I used them a lot over the years .
Tried the trick of using a cord in flame around the bottle neck and that was absolutely useless as a trick.

I've never tried any of those bottle cutters as yet but always wondered.

I've tried making my own slides with little success - I think I'd still like to try some more. I used a variety of glass cutters, heat / cold glass snapping, etc.

Eventually I just went to www.diamondbottlenecks.com I sent in my measurements of my favourite brass slide and then included some options that I wanted (rounded corner cut profile, a taper, etc.) and I have the best slide ever now :) in my Diamond Ultimate lead glass slide.

Scribing the line with light pressure and a quick motion is the thing to remember. Never scribe over the line twice and use oil on the cutter. I built my jig today and made my first glass slide. I probably had beginners luck and got it on my first attempt.
