Strat wiring and Single coil question.

OK gurus of the guitar, I am in a pickle of a sort.

I am rebuilding an old Squire II, a '79 Korean model to be precise, and I'm unable to find a correct schematic for the way that I want to wire it. Maybe I'm lookin' in the wrong spots.

I do not want to use the traditional 3 knob strat configuration. I would like to load the pickguard with a H/S/S setup. One volume knob, one tone knob, and in the place of the second tone knob (back) I would like to install a switch to coil tap the humbucker. Still using 5-way switching.

Any ideas?

Also, many of you know I'm not that much of a single coil guy. The 'bucker in the bridge will definetly be a Seymour Duncan JB. What would be some good single coils to run with it? I'd really dig it if the SC's were noiseless as well. Lace Sensors? If so, what color? Vintage noiseless?

Thanks in advance peeps!

Carl

Hey bro' C. Sure that's not a Squier 11? Lol.

Do any of your other gits have the same configuration for you to refer to their wiring scheme?

I know someone will have the answer for you, here.

Be cool, man.

Oh buddy, believe me, it is deinetly not a Squire Eleven. I have done much research on that particular device and this doesn't even come close.

I have one other H/S/S guitar. It's the Blue Jackson Custom Shop Dinky. However, that guitar utilizes the Tom Anderson Switcheroo system. You wanna talk about a weird switching system, check out the Switcheroo!

Everything else doesn't come close to this configuration. Yeah I figured a post here would generate a direction for me to head in.

Where's Mackie? Where's Alan Roberts?

Be easy, brudda!

Have you tried guitarnuts? I don't think they have a full-on wiring project that matches yours, but they should have all the elements and theory you need to figure it out for yourself. Go to the wiring & shielding link on the left side of the homepage, then to "how it works" for theory, and "modifications" for real-life examples.

As for pickups, I always recommend Bill Lawrence pickups for any Strat application. Dead quiet and inexpensive to boot. It's a small operation that only sells direct, and sometimes there's a substantial wait, but I think they're getting that under control; currently looks like it's typically 2 - 4 weeks for pickups depending on what you order and where they are in their production cycle. I'll mention this again too; there are two companies doing business under this name. (story somewhere in the site) I don't have any personal experience with the other company, but most people who are fans of the man who calls himself "Bill Lawrence" won't have anything to do with the other guy. Apparently he's mostly putting out an inferior product based on older designs. Stew-Mac stopped carrying his pickups a few years back, and I've heard nothing good about his product. Anyway, I think the pup you might be interested in is the L290S. Still single-coil sounding, but with a bit less sparkle and more midrange push.

Hey David. I had a feeling you'd pipe in here and I appreciate your time.

I have been digging through all kinds of sites. Guitarnuts was one of them along with the Seymour Duncan site. It seems I may have to figure it out for myself like you say. I wanted to be lazy and cheat though!! LOL!!

I checked the Lawrence site. Honestly, I have never heard anything bad about the "real" BL pickups. However, I have never played with any of his pickups. The no 60 cycle hum is a must for me though. Also the price is attractive.

Thanks again.

You could do it this way without having to sacrifice the 2nd tone control,or is this not what you had in mind?

Thanks for the link Alan. I just dug through it and I found this.

This is almost ideal. However, I actually only want one master tone control and I want to be able to get the bridge single coil by itself. This is where the coil tap switch comes in. I'll have to study this drawing and figure out how to wire the switch in.

Thanks for the time.
