"Before They Were WholeNoters"

Remember back to the days when you were just a QuarterNoter? Maybe almost a HalfNoter? But nowheres near the WholeNoter you are now?

Some of us have our pics on our homepages, but many do not. Have you ever wondered what your fellow WholeNoter looked like? Have you ever taken that a step further and wondered what they looked like as a QuarterNoter?

Well, one of your brother WholeNoters did and between the two of us, we've come up with what we think will be a bit of good-natured fun and funning.

I've been collecting pictures of folks as kids, with or without guitar, and will be posting them here. With no hints or clues, the rest of ya'll will try to guess who the Noter is. When there's been a correct identification, another pic will be posted.

I know several of you are already working to get your pics from Mom, but if anybody I didn't contact directly wants to be included, please PM me.

So, let's get this started with the first pic I received.

Nice lookin' Gretsch, for sure. And a perfect fir for the cowboy.

Hey, is that a shiner on the left eye, or a shadow? If it's a shiner I'm gonna guess that it's Craig Lindsey the day after he met his future wife.

Hey Slow,
Is that a 335 or a Gretsch? The p'ups look like the Gretsch "toasters".

Definitely a Gretsch. See the felt string-damper just in front of the bridge? And the little knob that raises and lowers it is just below the Bigsby. Also looks like F-hole decals rather than cutouts (not positive). That was supposed to be one of Chet's Ideas to try and squeeze a little more sustain out of it. I've never seen anything but a Gretsch in that color.

Looks like a shiner to me. Perhaps a brawl in the local saloon or a Tareyton smoker.

Gotta be Jim Heidinger.

Sure would love to get my paws on one of those guitars.

Kevin

I was in a band once with a guy who owned one just like it, and since he wasn't a guitar picker (he was a fiddler who just had a knack for acquiring cool stuff) he wanted me to always play it.

Only problem was, as cool looking as those guitars were, they were definitely not up to prime Gibson quality; pretty hit and miss, and I'm afraid his was a miss. Not terrible, but definitely not what one hopes for when one sees such a cool looking axe. Very little sustain, kind of dull attack, but it stayed in tune ok despite the Bigsby. (which I did use)

Definitely, my dad had one exactly like it. Had the big leather pad on the back. Big Gibson "Hawk"? amp. My cousin pushed me into it and gave me my first black eye when I was four years old. Like I've mentioned before, I always wanted to be either Cheyenne Bodie or Jessie James. Hmmmmm...,Black hat, black eye.....

Just to diversify I'll say Steve Cass, but I really think it's probably Kevin.

I like spinach. That was a couple Sundays ago when the Bengals spanked the Steelers. I'm not a football fan but I made the mistake of going to little brother Sluggo's (who is a Bengal extremist. He cried when they lost the Super Bowl). I put on the jersey for fear of death or other bodily harm. Turned out to be a fun day.
