would anyone out their think that prince is the modern day hendrix. they both can play the s--- out of a guitar, both wrote great songs, and they both have the sex appeal to be considered heros. the only difference is that prince can play more instruments.

I remember Prince being promoted as the new Hendrix in the early days. I was so disappointed with my first exposure (I think I had imagined someone like SRV), that it took me ages to appreciate Prince in his own right.

Prince has sold over 100 million albums in his career so far; Hendrix has probably inspired millions of guitarists over his lifetime (and beyond his lifetime). As a songwriter and producer I think Prince is much better, but as far as guitar riffs go Jimi is the man. When I think of Hendrix songs I think of his guitar singing to me, Prince songs I hear the words (hook master Prince). They are similar and different both have excellent musicality and a raw aggressive nature that is rock and roll. So I would want Hendrix to play the guitar, Prince to write and arrange the song (and play all the instruments).

The fact that Hendrix made his huge mark in music in essentially 4 years and Prince has been at it for almost 30 without influencing nearly as many people should be a good barometer as to how the comparison goes....in my opinion.
