First, let me say that I have always that Wholenote was a great thing for guitar players. It has providede a sense of community for thousands of musicians. A library of knowledge has been shared here in lessons, articles and message board messages that is invaluable to players in all styles at all levels.

Wholenote is certainly a good thing.

When I first discovered Wholenote (about 8 years ago), I was on this site for hours every day. I created a lesson a day for about 2 weeks. I posted copious messages and 'published' articles. I answered questions and got in arguments. Eventually, that enthusiasm waned. However, I have always lurked- even at my least involved points, I probably still checked in a few times a week. I have seen much kindness here, and received really great and encouraging messages, and I have seen horrible attitudes and closed mindedness. In fairness, I have been both kind and close-minded, so there ya go.

The problems that I have with Wholenote are related to this overwhelming sense of Deja Vu, which I think is inescapable, because I see it on other message boards onj which I lurk. Please note that these are my problems (mostly) and not anyone elses- that is, they are not anybody's fault, but my own impatience. I don't mean to down anyone's skill or abilities or knowledge.

everyone asks the same freakin' questions about once a month, and the same messages are always posted...
  • "what chord is this?" (this always leads to a theory discussion of triads and 7th chords, scales, intervals, etc. And generally a few arguments.)
  • "what is the best guitar/amp/strings for (this style/amount of money)?
  • "what style of music do you like?" which generally leads to and is directly related to flamewars of "(whatever style or artist) sucks."
  • I have invented/ discovered a system of playing guitar: I call it a planar quirk and there are 7 jingers in a wuasar... (etc, blah blah)

I've pretty much seen all the messages, all the posts. 57 times. I used to try to answer or discuss or argue, but there are several here both faster to respond and with better explanations than I would come up with, so it's pointless.

So I guess I am just burned out on the whole thing.

So I made a conscious decision not to come around here so much.

I am in the process of moving my better lessons to my personal website. I will leave them up here, though too at least for the time being...

Don't think I don't love you all though. (well some of you can think that, because I don't love all)of you. (ha ha ha)

    peace and love,

    JC

Why not just put YOUR lessons on your site and leave the WN versions in place. They are YOUR lessons. The version that is uploaded to WN is what WN hold the rights to just to protect themselves. So tweak a sentence or two and there ya go, it's a new animal. Off-loading them is like burning a bridge (but maybe that's what you intend. That's ok).
