Best guitar solo of all times

Well, a British radio station asked its listeners the old question what the best guitar solo of all times should be ... we all know how subjective such polls are and I don't want to discuss whether A is really better than B (because what criteria should such a discussion be based on - technical difficulty? feel? fitting the song?). But I found the results quite interesting and you might as well (might be interesting to note differences between American similar polls and this British one):

01. Pink Floyd - "Comfortably Numb"
02. Guns N'Roses - "Sweet Child O' Mine"
03. Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Freebird"
04. Van Halen - "Eruption"
05. Guns N'Roses - "November Rain"
06. Led Zeppelin - "Stairway to Heaven"
07. Dire Straits - "Sultans of Swing"
08. Jethro Tull - "Aqualung"
09. The Eagles - "Hotel California"
10. Deep Purple - "Child In Time"
11. Queen - "Brighton Rock"
12. Jimi Hendrix - "All Along The Watchtower"
13. Deep Purple - "Highway Star"
14. Wishbone Ash - "Throw Down The Sword"
15. Ozzy Osbourne - "No More Tears"
16. Cream - "Crossroads"
17. Guns N'Roses - "Paradise City"
18. Led Zeppelin - "Since I've Been Loving You"
19. Ten Years After - "I'm Going Home (Woodstock)"
20. Jimi Hendrix - "Voodoo Chile"
21. Led Zeppelin, Dazed and Confused
22. Neil Young, Like a Hurricane
23. Rush, Working Man
24. Bon Jovi, Dry Country
25. Pink Floyd, Time
26. Rainbow, Stargazer
27. Bon Jovi, Wanted (Dead Or Alive)
28. AC/DC, Let There Be Rock
29. Thin Lizzy, Still In Love With You
30. Gary Moore, Still Got The Blues For You
31. Metallica, The Unforgiven
32. Iron Maiden, The Trooper
33. UFO, Rock Bottom
34. Ozzy Osbourne, Mr Crowley
35. AC/DC, Whole Lotta Rosie
36. Deep Purple, Smoke On The Water
37. Frank Zappa, Willie The Pimp
38. Led Zeppelin, Whole Lotta Love
39. Jimi Hendrix, Hey Joe
40. Thin Lizzy, Emerald

Some surprises in here - but I agree with a LOT of these choices.

It's good to see Rainbow in there though. People rarely acknowledge any of Ritchie Blackmore's work outside of Deep Purple. I personally think that Rainbow and Blackmore's Night are much better than Deep Purple.

Of all those solos, and there isn't a single one by Tony Iommi? If you were to ask 100 completely random fans of 70's rock, hard rock, metal, etc. Chances are at least 40 or so would mention Tony Iommi as having several of the greatest riffs, and solos from that period. So, it's just weird to see stuff by Ozzy, without it being one that Tony has done.

I agree, it's weird. Even more so, because this radio station is a BRITISH CLASSIC ROCK station and it asked the listeners .... those listeners simply seemed to fail to mention Iommi or Black Sabbath.

On the other hand, I can see Iommi being remembered for his riffs, but not soooo much for the solos he played and thus, he might be missing in a "Best guitar solo of all times" poll.

everyone knows its the solo to "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO hahahahahahh

The two best guitar solos would have to be either the one in "Desert Rose" by Eric Johnson or the one from "Of Sins and Shadows" by Symphony X. Neo-Classical goodness...

If we're talking about any dual guitar solos, then pretty much every single Dragonforce song is demonstration of mastering the dual guitar solo. Iron Maiden started the trend and was amazing, but Dragonforce totally changed it.
