Near the top of my list would be the riff to "Black Diamond" from KISS and "Take It Off The Top" by the Dixie Dregs. I could think of more but this is off the top of my head.

Since you cited Ritchie Blackmore, how about "Man on the Silver Mountain"?

Yes, another classic! "Demon's Eye" is good too. Don't forget "Burn" too.

How about "Cold Gin" or "Calling Dr. Love"?

Love 'em. Also, simple as they are, I love the riffs for "Detroit Rock City" and "Love Gun".

I LOVE Mr. Speed. One of the best riffs Paul Stanley has written (I am a bit of a PS fan in case you couldn't tell LOL). I also love the riff to Unholy. My son and I rattle that riff off almost every time we pick up our guitars.

The opening lines of Emperors In the Nightside Eclipse cd (after the opening weird noises). that riff is so evil and cold and perfect. Other than that I'd have to say any Opeth cd has a dictionary of some of the greatest riffs I've heard, same with Morbid Angel, Behemoth, Rolling Stones, and some Beatles songs even. But if I were to say the greatest, it'd be the basic blues riff liek Jimmy Reed, why? Cause it's versatile, and has been used in more songs than you could ever possibly imagine. Maybe not too creative, but a workhorse riff for sure.

Ryan, I was browsing Guitar Player mag the other day, the 3/06 issue. And I may even be wrong about the magazine, (may have been a very similar pub.), but there was "10 most monsterous licks of all time" as a leading piece.
Now these aren't absolutely my favs, but I thumbed through, looking at the tabs and playing them in my head. The tabs stirred my memory, more accurately. But I was amazed to see that out of the top ten, about 6 or 7, at least, were McLaughlin licks, and not new ones either. Man, there musta been 4 from "Birds of Fire", and a couple from other old sources.
And when I looked at the tab for them, which I had never seen, not having listened to the albums for some yrs, I could see why they were A#1 monsters.
I know, that's not the same thing as your post, "The best...." but thought ya might be interested if you see the publication around. Man those things were mean!, haha. And frankly I like his later Indian raga stuff.
