Hey All

I've had my amp for 2 1/2 years and its starting to sound a little noisy and I dont feel its sounding as good as it used too . Theres this weird sound when I hit the low strings . kind of a whirling . I'm hoping its old tubes.
Question is .. Is it best to change all the tubes at once ? Preamp and output .
And another question is my amp is auto bias so can I just plug new ones in myself ?

Thanks

I don't think it's necessary to change preamp AND poweramp tubes at the same time, but if I change preamp tubes, I change all the preamp tubes, not just one or two - same goes for poweramp.

Generally I'd say yes, if your amp is auto-bias, you can plug in new tubes yourself if you keep an eye on what type of tubes you need.

It really depends on how much playing time you have on the tubes themselves. If you play regularly, say 10 or more hours a week on the amp, you probably want to change the tubes every six months. With this amp, you can do the tube swap yourself... stick with matched output tubes.

You might also have a solder joint going cold. If after changing tubes it continues, that is something to check for. Also, get a can of Caig DeOxit and go thru the jacks, pots and contact points. Just because it is auto bias, don't change to another value tube.

Yes, change the tubes. All of 'em.

As Randy said, make sure your tubes are matched and stick with the same value of tubes. (6L6, EL34, etc.)

What kind of amp?

Carl
