Blues progression I just cant seem to get it...

ok my church is doing a song on sunday its very basic.. and if i was just playing the chords it would be a cinch as its just

C F G

but im doing lead guitar parts.. Now.. when I hear the song in my head, I can hear the parts in my head of what I would play on the guitar.. bluesy BUt can i translate that to the guitar.. Noooope

When i sit down to play what i heard in my head.. well i just cant seem to find what im hearing in my head if that makes sense.. I guess the first question would be.. if it has a bluesy feel to it and its in C what scale should i stick too? is there a C blues scale.

second.. is their any variations of the C F G chords I can play to give it a more blues feel . like C7 or something.. But i need to know where to play it on the guitar

the song was originally done SLOWish its a david ruis song you can find the song on here its called

WE WILL RIDE
http://tenbyten.com/software/songsgen/Songs/r-z.html

you will have to scroll down to use the FIND to locate it.

its on there in D but we are doing it in C and slightly faster.

aaahhhhhhhh.. I hear the lead parts perfect in my head but cant seem to play them on the guitar.. finding them or figuring out.. i can see it now ill probably be standing there either play the same thing over and over lol.. or hitting the wrogn notes.. or just cave in and play the chords along with the acoustic guy which will drown him out .... any help appreciated

And yes, you could make the chords sound bluesier by making them dom7s: C7, F7, G7. (F7 is a specially bluesy sound.)

Here's one pattern for C blues scale:
C blues

Bend some of the notes for more bluesy effects. All those underlined below can be bent, by different amounts - experiment to see what works.
