Samick any good??

Yeah Yeah, I know, Samick guitars suck.

But recently, I've been seeing quite a few that look REALLY nice, and they probably play as good as they look as well. If you have no idea how a Samick could be nice, check out the new Greg Bennett series. I've never played them, but they don't just look better than the older models, they also seem to have good harware and Duncan Designed pickups.

Does anybody have any info on them, other than the Grover/Wilkinson/Duncan Designed hardware, or even how they play. It would be appreciated.
Oh, yeah, what would they cost as well. I'm looking at the Interceptor II and the Concord models.

yeah, thanks, for the response, it seems they would go around that much.

Another interesting thing i found out is that Bennett is'nt the designer (at least, not only), he actually acquired Samick, AND Abilene. (thats what I heard)

I don't know where these rumours spring from but that is a ridiculous notion. Where is Greg Bennett going to get the neccessary money to buy out a giant like Samick? Depending on the report you read, Samick is worth somwhere between 200 and 500 billion dollars. That is some serious change! Even Bill Gates couldn't afford that out of his own pocket. Samick posted a profit of 16 billion dollars last year.

Greg Bennett guitars:

If I am thinking right Samwick,Oscar Schmidit,Greg Bennett design guitars are all made from or owned by Washburn Guitar Co.

Kinda like Fender to squire-Gibson to Epi.ect.

I have played a few O.S. Greg Bennett designed guitars.

The guitar for the money is not a bad buy for the price.(Read On)

The electrical pots and wires in them are a c grade.

The pickups are a little lacking in tone(not real thick kinda thin sounding) (not the highest grade that Duncan has)-they do produce some nice clean jazz tones , not a good rock or metal sound in my thoughts

The pickups are kinda like a F.Rose licensed trem and the original. Good but not the best of the line.

Myself I found the necks to small for my hands, they kinda felt like the early EVH Wolfgangs by Peavey with the rasied neck by the headstock which is just wrong in my hands.
(So glad he went to Charvell)-another stroy alltogether.

If you are wanting a entry-mid level guitar with a low price with room to grow with upgrades later this guitar line is for you.

I did find that the action of the guitars and overall playing feel to be in line with the price of the guitars.

Overall finish on the guitars was great-sunburst-red-black-blue-natural finish is what I looked at, I did see some lack of spray controll (light and then heavey) on the blue finish makeing it a darker blue in some spots but that was it.

All the guitars that I played had Grovers on them
the guitars stayed in tune.

Hope this helps:

Dude

Dude, no, Samick is not owned or even affiliated with Washburn. Samick Music Corporation is actually the largest music company in the world and tops sales by quite a margin. They are operating under so many brands you would struggle to find them all.

Samick had a major image and quality control problem for several years and released the Greg Bennett brand as a means of making a fresh start. The quality is indeed much better and the instruments under this new name are quite respectable and good value. I personally wouldn't buy one because I'm at a time in my life where I want top-notch or nothing, but for newcomers and those on a budget they are as good as anything else around for the same price.

You have to pay for what you get.

I have a surperb Samick. Greg Bennett design. Blonde. Dual Pick up ect. Excellent. Top of the line. Retail for about $1200. Perhaps Korean made I think.

I made a modification. Bought a different bridge, bi directional. Had a luther adjust the new bridge by reducing its heighth to correspond with the one that came with the instrument.

Intonation is perfect in all registers due to the new bridge. Open harmonics match the stopped 12th fret. Sounds great as it without using an amp.

The more expensive models are very good. I played this guitar off and on for about 6 months or more in the store. It went on sale and I could not resist the opportunity. Acoustic Electrics are not that popular with many but it is the only type that I desire. I believe that comes from living in close quarters with other people where the sound has to be controlled. Drummers have similar problems and that is how the drum pad came into being, I think.

It compares with my Gibson single pickup purchased in 1948 - 1950 ES 125.Take care.
