Tech 21 Pedals...

I have a 30W Kustom ss amp that I am quite fond of given my limited budget. However, its distortion channel is painfully lacking. I am considering buying a Tech 21 pedal to run through it...I am specifically looking at the Tri OD Overdrive or the Double Drive Distortion pedal. I have tried digital modeling and it doesn't work for me. This analog stuff seems really warm and I like it better than the Boss distortions I have heard. Anyone have any experience here?

I havent heard either of those but a buddy in my band has a comptortion . And its sounds pretty good thru his tube amp. But I've heard it through a solid state as well and it didnt sound good at all. I dont know of your amp ,in fact I dont know anything about kustom's at all .but im guessing "ss" is solid state . If it is I would defiantaly try both out with your rig first .

Oh yeah, its a solid state. :S The comptorion seems a litte different, more like the Boss pedals in that it needs the tubes to give it warmth. The Tech21 website has some very unimpressive samples of its ability through the Tri OD pedal. I'm gonna order the Double Drive and try it out, as it is based on analog modeling.

Tech 21's SansAmps are analog preamps and sound best when run directly into a recording console, PA or through the effects return of an amp. I have a TRI-AC, which lets you set up three tones in three footswithable channels. I run it through the effects return of my solid state Roland Jazz Chorus 120. SansAmps, with their Tweed, British and California settings do a very good job of emulating the tube amp characteristics of a Fender, Marshall and Mesa Boogie, respectively. If you use a SanAmp like a stomp box in front of an amp/combo, your amplifiers pre-amp will color the sound of the SanAmp. The SansAmp still works okay in front of a solid state amp which produces a flat enough response. However, the SanAmp really does well as a direct recording device, going direct into a PA, or (as I'm using it) through the effects return of my JC-120. Since it bypasses the JC's pre-amp and reverb, I use a digital reverb (as well as a digital delay) in my signal chain. I use a clean Fender tone on one channel, a just breaking up Mesa Boogie tone on the second channel and a more overdriven Santana Mesa Boogie tone on the third channel.

Yeah, I was thinking about getting the Triple AC and a keyboard amp until I saw the Double Drive.

Its a true stomp box with an A drive that emulates the sound of a Class A tube amps and an A/B drive that emulates the sound of Class A/B tube amps. You can also cascade the two to produce a unique distortion. So basically, this should give me a very vesatile third channel to my amp.

Thanks for the advice.
