I just checked out your homepage before responding... I've recently developed an appreciation for jazz along with rock and blues. Don't get discouraged from playing, because jazz is basically sophisticated blues to various levels of polishing in regards to composition vs. improv and other demands on the players. Jazz also often requires a strong grasp of music concepts and theory; I'd personally recommend finding a teacher to learn music theory and what jazz is all about.

While I don't find myself playing jazz standards, I think it's influence comes out in original melodies.
