Willie's AAT for December

I spoke to Bob K. this afternoon/evening over the phone, and he has convinced me to post this one for you all to have a go, so let's see some of you big boys give me your best shots!

It's called "Father to Son". It's played at 75 BPM, and is mostly in F (though I have yet to master writing in keys).

Here you go Willie. There are a couple of glaring clunks in there but I kinda like it. I went for a slow approach, as usual, but I had fun with it. Hope you dig.

That was the "Purple Haze Solo" preset from the PODxt with a little extra delay.

Thanks man. It was a cool track to work with.

Great job Carl, it flows man, love it !!

As I wrote in a reply to Jim's take, this thing has so many possibilities, it's unreal. You just showed us a great example of one.

Really enjoyed it !!

Hey Bern!!

Yeah man, that was the "Purple Haze Solo" preset from the PODxt. I tweaked up the delay (stereo) and dirt (fuzz) just a little. I played the whole thing in the neck position of my T/A Strat.

Thanks for the sentiment, I appreciate it.

Sounds good , Carl. You didn't step on any pre-existing material either.

Very nice tone.

Naw, Carl.
No new gear, just using the stuff I have.
I sold a mic (AKG C414)to Vicky Randle from the Tonight show. I'm gonna let some stuff go on eBay. I'll give a heads up here, too.
I have a list of gear to review though.
I'm just finishing up recording 2 songs for a band, Christmas break, then on to a full length album for another.

What ahve you been up to, no good?
;^)

Work. Things are slow for me on the gear front as well. However, I recently aquired a 1965 Buick Special, if that counts as gear then bonus for me, I guess!

Cool beans as far as the recording and sales of your things to celebs!! You'll be a star too!!

Yeah drop a line for the things you think I might be interested in.

Wow! Carl! Very nice take there! You had a nice lyrical thing going on. Kept the energy up too which is hard to do on such a long track.

Good work!

I really appreciate it Jim, no doubt.

I was kinda worried about the lenghth of the track when I started. I did a couple tries and had some severe mistakes. But then it was weird, I kinda felt that I hit something. got into a groove, when that happend it seemed to just flow.

Thanks again.

I like to think of that as entering the zone. This is where you become the music. Every once and a while I get there and that is where the magic takes over. I don't really know how to describe it. But I imagine it might be like a long distance runner that hits their stride where the body and mind are in tune with the task. I also experience something I refer to as timelessness. This is where I am so involved with the music that I am unaware of time or any thing around me. Oddly enough, although this is where I do my best playing, I have trouble knowing how long I've been at it... I have to then think about where I am in terms of bars played and ZAP, I'm out of the zone... LOL

I heard you there Carl. You were riding a nice wave! :) Very cool!

All I can say is that it was kind of weird. Some of the things that I do I feel aren't up to par, yet I throw them up anyway. This hasty act probably isn't one of the best habits to get into, but I figure if I strive for perfection everytime I may have never put anything up to begin with! LOL!!

OTOH, I did feel good about this one.

A long time ago a friend got me out of my perfection shell by forcing me to play live. If I had my way, everything would be album quality! But getting out there and playing way below my standard I set for myself taught me a valuable lesson. Most people are going to enjoy what you do regarless about how you feel about it.

That said, I don't wait for perfection either. It would be a long wait for sure! LOL Besides, often there are moments of brilliance amongst the chaos that make it worth it. I always hear something unexpected or inspirational on all these AATs even when the person, myself included, doesn't feel they did their best.

It's better to just put up something. There is always going to be a connection with someone that makes the exercise well worth it.
