Your post intrigues me, as I have been struggling with my nails for a couple of years now. I barely have time to practice any more, so my nails grow and look fine, then I go to a gig and play for 2 hours and completely destroy them.
I tried fingerpicks and could never get used to them. Right now I keep several layers of Sally Hansen "Teflon Tuff" on my nails, topped off by a layer or two of Sally Hansen "No Chip". It looks really funny and keeps my nails OK, but it still doesn't really cut it if I play for a long gig.
Can you go into detail on the ping-pong ball thing? For instance:
- What size do you cut the balls into? Should it cover the whole nail, like fake nails, or do you just cut slivers and put it over the tip?
- Why is a ping-pong ball better than over-the-counter fake nails? I've never used fake nails, but my wife says I should, she's not a big fan of my nail polish.
- Do you really use Krazy Glue? If so, how do you get the nails off when you're done playing, or do you just live with them?
Thanks, man, I've been searching for the solution to this problem for ages, if this really works I'll be forever in your debt!
