I've got an Ibanez DE-7 delay/echo pedal that I can't do without. It's easy to use and has plenty of control over how you want it to react to your playing style. The sound is really good and it's never failed me. Heavy duty construction as is with most pedals and pretty cheap in price considering your getting two pedals in one.
If your sold on the Boss though, go with what sounds best to you. I'd try out a couple brands and see what suits your own personal tastes.

I use a digital delay, don't have any complaints. But i also use a rack mount which is, IMO, the way to go for digital delay. Tons more options slapback, flange, chorus, longer delay times. A friend of mine uses a DD3 and it's pretty good, does everythign a delay pedal should. Try some out at your store and go with whatever sounds good to you.

I use a Boss GT-6 myself. I have always liked the digital delays in the multi-effect units better than the individual stomp boxes. With the GT-6, I can mix in some reverb and even bounce the delay around in stereo for a full, rich sound. Plus I have the "tap tempo" function so I can set the timing of the delayed signal on the fly.

i have this old Analog pedal. I used to have a danelectro Digital delay, but it broke. I was thankful cause I like my analog better and I probably would never have used it. Analog is perfect for me cause it sounds much darker and texturous, and sometimes it can sound very bright and vibrant. I like it a lot. I think Boss makes very well reliable pedals, even though I dont like their distortion very much. I heard some good things about the DD-5 though.

I don't really think there is a "better", personally. With analog, you get a rich vintage sound, but with digital, you get a nice, tight and percise sounds. Go with your heart as too which you perfer.
