An ABer's band opened for Yngwie!

ActiveBass member Dave Magaro and his band opened for Yngwie Malmsteen (I'm assuming in Pennsylvania ; at least it was 'out east' somewhere). VERY interesting read about working with the fellow.

Read about it here:

Yngwie's in a mood (We opened for Yngwie last night)

Do you folks have any stories that could top this? I'll bet you do!

;^)

I read the story last night on activebass.Big name cats can be a pain..egomaniacs,the i'm better than you thing.I thought it was totally ignorant that Yngwie wanted the owner to move roof support beam..what a dork to say that.I also thought it hilarious that Yngwie was on one side of the stage and the rest of the band was on the other. It don't matter how talented one is if they are a complete foolish idiot.By the way Miss Tracy,it's good to see you doing so well gigging.I know you having a blast.

I'm definitely having a blast, Randy; what I haven't figured out how to do yet is to still be a domestic engineer while taking on this extra "part-time job" on top of my full-time one. I'm finally going to take some vacation time just to try get the house cleanable.

BTW, Randy, the Scottish Highlanders are having an alumni reunion next fall at the U. of Iowa Homecoming the first weekend of October. I'm seriously thinking of taking a week off to come down for that. Let me know if you're going to be playing anywhere nearby that weekend!

Thanks, Dave, I'm afraid I have a Midwesterner's sense of geography . . . everything east of the Mississippi is all "out east somewhere." *LOL*

Of course, Bemidji is north of the Missipssippi, but that's another issue.

He does know how to play his guitar. But a fat man in his 40s shouldn't be wearing leather pants anymore.

Michael,

Yngwie Malmsteen still thinks it is 1986. He is a sad, sad puppy. He is actually to funny looking to take seriously. When I hear him play I usually just bust out laughing, because he's such a lost cause.

I'm just curious John, is it his ability or his looks that you have a problem with.

Dave,

Actually, it's everything about him. I think he's an egotistical butthole that will NEVER impress me with his playing. I think he isn't very tasteful. I mean there are so many other guitarists out there to listen to. I just think listening to him is a waste of my time.

I certainly can't argue with you on the egotistical part. You're right, there are so many other guitarist's out there. From the list on your Homepage Satriani would probably be my favorite. We used to do four or five Satriani songs in the last band I was in. Satch Boogie was such a fun number to play.... but, I'm getting away from the point. Yngwie is certainly not for everybody... but what musician is. I don't neccessarily respect the man, but I do respect his ability. He is a very talented guy. Opening for him and getting to see him live was a treat indeed! He truley did an incredible accoutsic solo. I don't find listing, and learning from a talented guy a waste of time.... even if I don't like them, or there style. I'm not trying to cram Yngwie down your throat or anything like that. You've made your mind up about it and that's cool. But, some of your comments about him could be somewhat offensive to people who do appreciate his ability and talent. Like I said he's not for everybody, I understand that.... to each their own.

Dave
