Young Rock Players that Impress You

It occurs to me that there is a huge shortage of new faces when it comes to good new guitarists hitting the scene. So much of modern music is non-guitar oriented, it really seems like there is nobody out there to carry the torch.

What new guitarists do you think are going to stick around to be the Claptons and Van Halens, or even the Kirk Hammetts of 20 years from now?

John Mayer: I've never heard any of his music, but I saw the cover of his new CD and he's holding a really cool looking beat up strat. I was wondering if he knew how to use it. :-) Is he any good, or typical modern junk?

Shadows Fall: Great guitar playing, and I think the guy is only 23 or 24. They are a thrash metal band though.

Anyone you can think of, in any genre be it rock, metal, blues, jazz, country or some other?

Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead he may not be a baby but he is way too unnoticed for starting to play the guitar when he was 18 then 2 years later playing Creep.

Derek trucks is incredible. I just learned about him last week when I joined musicmatch.com.

How would it be to be raised in an environment where you surrounded by blues/rock musicians like the Allman bros. Must be nice being the nephew of a sweet band.

I forgot to mention that Mato Nanji from the native american blues group Indigenous is pretty sweet too. I wish the vocals were a bit better however. But the guitar playing. Pretty impressive. They're touring right now w/ Jonny Lang.

SRV was a big influence on his style. As a child Stevie even gave him a few lesson once. Some people are just lucky I guess.

Another vote her for Derek Trucks. He's a phenomenal slide player. I like his musical direction with the Derek Trucks Band, too.

He is young, too, although I don't knwo his exact age.
