Young Rock Players that Impress You
It occurs to me that there is a huge shortage of new faces when it comes to good new guitarists hitting the scene. So much of modern music is non-guitar oriented, it really seems like there is nobody out there to carry the torch.
What new guitarists do you think are going to stick around to be the Claptons and Van Halens, or even the Kirk Hammetts of 20 years from now?
John Mayer: I've never heard any of his music, but I saw the cover of his new CD and he's holding a really cool looking beat up strat. I was wondering if he knew how to use it. :-) Is he any good, or typical modern junk?
Shadows Fall: Great guitar playing, and I think the guy is only 23 or 24. They are a thrash metal band though.
Anyone you can think of, in any genre be it rock, metal, blues, jazz, country or some other?

I'll vouch for John Mayer. My girlfriend was really into him when he first came out and I didn't really like him but I saw him in concert and he was amazing. I still don't like his studio stuff, but his live album is great. He is pretty bluesy with some pop mixed in. His main influence he cites is SRV so that says something. Also, on a personal level he is the reason I started listening to blues and the reason that SRV rarely leaves my CD Player now.
Also, I don't know the guys name but there is a blues-rock group called Indigeneous and there lead guitarist is really good. His sound reminds me of SRV too. I have there newest release and I like it a lot.

I agree with pretty much everything Taylor has said. I like some of John Mayer's own stuff (especially "Neon"), but i like his covers most of all. Check out his cover of SRV's "Lenny." It is amazing. As well as a few Hendrix covers like "The Wind Cries Mary" and "Hey Joe." Also does a great cover of "Message in a Bottle" by the Police. I haven't heard any of the new album yet, hopefully it's good.

I didn't touch on his covers, but I would definitely agree. His cover of Lenny it was got me into SRV and some of the Jimi stuff he covers made me start listening to Hendrix more.

I'm not sure how young he is exactly, but Chris Duarte is an extremely skilled and exciting new guitarist. He plays with a band called Indigenous (which is well worth checking out), but he also has done much solo work.
