I use Fender, Dunlop picks. Medium thickness, I like the fender .88 mm size made of fake tortoise shell.

Fender Premium Celluloid Picks - WORST PICKS EVER! They are reduced to a useless knub that has lost its point within minutes of playing.

Dunlop Gator Grip Picks - Awesome. Never slip and and keep their point. Dunlop Tortex Picks are good too.

I tend to use medium sized gauges, unless im playing acoustic in which case a lighter gauge may be needed.

for shredding I use 2.7mm pick. Took some getting used to, but my god does it help my speed. Most of the time I usually use whatever's around though.

Jeez Pieter,
The only time I a pick that thick was a custom made pick I produced for my bass playing. I used two pieces of cabinet laminte formica cemented back to back. I the custom buffed each one with a jewelers wheel to the shape I wanted. It was like Thor's own pick . My bass would thunder when I used it. I still have one left so I guess my bass playing days aren't over yet.

Now this is really interesting... I was wondering, has anyone else made their own pick out of an interesting material? I'm thinking of pounding down a penny a bit and shaping it into a pick... maybe a quarter too (gasp! defacing the coinage!) Any other suggestions?

It's weird, but, I love the ol' tried-n-true Fender Med picks.

However, I do notice that (like many others) a Fender Heavy is great for shredd-type playing....

But, I find it hard to play 90% of regular stuff with a Heavy pick, so I simply use my Fender Mediums for damn near all my playing.

Oh, they have to be the cool Tortise Shell Green color!!!! ;)

I find that the Dava Control Pick is the best pick for my varied style. It gives me good tone (not as good as a brand new 1mm Tortex, but it lasts a lot longer) and I find that is surprisingly versatile.

Use any pick you feel Ok (easy)to play with
Try out a quite a few.
Anything that feels right and sounds or feels
comfortable to play with.
Use it.

You can use a light or heavy pick (depends on
the song.
I end up using the same pick for all.

Use a number of picks to try.
