The best set of strings ever

I've had the same set of strings on my Les Paul since December and they still have great tone, not rusted, haven't broke any and still hold in tune.I've used Fender Original 150's 11 gauge for a few years now,but this set has been incredible.Through over 50 gigs and a few prctices, that is saying something.I fear that when evetually I change them,I'll never be so lucky again...

Are you seriously telling me that you played 50 gigs with the same set of strings.

I know this is a rarity, and it won't last much longer and I'll change the strings, but yes they have lasted a long time with great tone.No they don't have the twang and sharpness of new strings, but they sound good still.Usually I have to change strings every 3 weeks,so this set has been a blessing.I didn't realize that when I first posted the message, that I'd get such a response.I was just saying I am amazed by this set of strings.Every once in a blue moon amazing things happen, but rarely with music gear!!!!!

Understood. I usually change my strings at least once every two weeks and probably moreso. The fact that you said a set of strings lasted that long amazed me, that is all.

Guys--

To each their own, ok?

Look, you may find that after a year or three that you're going to change your mind on your string convictions!

Maybe certain strings will last a long time. Lasting a long time is a totally different thing than sounding fresh!!

Me personally, I go for the fresh sound. I change strings all the time. If you like the 'less-than-fresh' but 'still sounds ok' sound of your strings, alrighty then.

Acoustic is a totally different animal than electric. I'm more of a fresh string freak on the acoustic, but I've been known to be the same kind of freak on electric strings. On my Taylor, I use Martin SP4100's. If I'm recording, I'll change them either before each session or every other session, depending the type of playing and sound needed (ain't nothing like a fresh set of strings for a mellow sound. A perfect attack and sustain is vital).

On electric for recording or playing live, heh, the coils don't transfer very much of the 'fresh' sound anyway. I just got done cutting a lead in the studio with my Les Paul, and the Super Slinky's have been on it for a couple of months. Heck, it sounded way cool. Much of the tone comes from the hands; much of the overall tone and sound comes from using a good tube amp into the right cabinet into the right microphone!

Steve

I really couldn't agree more, Steve(especially the last paragraph of your post). I think I, too, have tried everything out there....and always seem to come back to my trusty $3 set of Super Slinky's. Strings (fresh or old) account for alot, when it comes to tone......but I also believe "playing with conviction" does, too!!

Yeah i was playing on one of my mates guitars who hadnt played it in about 5 years and it was sooooo bad.
Ya tune it normally then ya play a G Chord and it sounds so wrong so ya tune it while playing the G and then wen ya play an E chord it sounds sooo wrong.

I usually play D'Addario 12s on my strat and love the tone and the fact that the strings don't oxidize super fast...additionally I can get them for $3/pack, so changing them every 3 weeks isn't too harsh on the wallet. I used to play elixers on my acoustic, but thought the tone was kind of dead, so I switched to some phosphor bronze D'Addario as well as DR 12's...both seem to be equally satisfying.

Bunch'o snobs, haha just kidding. But I have an old beater nylon string that I have experimented with...it truly has some old damned strings. It can sound kind of sitar-like, with enough attack. Mainly sounds like a bunch of in-tune rubber bands. There are things of my own composition in odd tunings that I maybe don't share with others, but that I definately enjoy playing on only that old piece of s---e. Oh well. I have fun with it. Is that the idea? ha

I change strings about every 3 weeks or so. To me, there is nothing like new strings. They just sound good. Plus, I usually polish up my frets and wipe down the fretboard real good. It's become sort of like a ritual.
