Who's playing the Blues?

I know lots of good old Blues guitarists from the past but now I was interested in discovering some more of the present day. So who's actually playing the blues nowadays? Anything worth listen to? I prefer if you tell me solo artists rather than bands... Always watched the blues as a solo style...

I've seen Taj many, many times and agree with you 100%. He's been around since, what?, the sixties, and never really claimed the accolades he deserves!

Pick up the Last Blind Pig two CD set. They have some older well know players but I find one or two new people from every set. Also try Alligator Their comp sets always good to.

Try Big Bill Morganfield Muddy Waters son. Deborah Coleman is really good also, or Jimmy Thackery & the drivers. Chris Thomas King mixes hip hop and blues and John Mooney plays great slide. If you want something really raw try Junior Kimbrough. Buddy Guys last disc Sweet Tea is based on Kimbrough's style. Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside are from the same vein. Another Slide player is Roy Rogers, he covers alot of different style. And if you can find it MCA put out the Chess original Super Blues band record called Join Forces. Its Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters and Little Walter live in the studio.

WoW!
Yeah, I have this Roy Rogers CD, "Slideways" a friend gave to me. It's great!
Anyway, I was under the impression that he was a local San Francisco player. He seems to be playing here quite a bit.
So, He's nationally known? lol I thought he was local talent!
I'm an idiot!!!

Check out
Jack Johnson
. He's also a surfer and a filmmaker
(September Sessions is his only movie), so he pretty
much gets all his creative motivation from the surfing.
As far as his music goes, he does a lot of unique
acoustic rhythms.

His album's called "Brushfire Fairytales." If you happen
to download music, check out "flake (f/ Ben Harper)," "f-
stop blues," and "inaudible melodies."

Another great player is Kelly Joe Phelps, a great player in the delta blues tradition and a great songwriter.

Hi Bruno,
I personally enjoy the acoustic blues players who keep the tradition while developing the style.
Some names were already pointed, like Corey Harris or Kelly Joe Phelps. A few more: Rory Block, John Hammond, Roy Bookbinder...I may remember a few more later.
You may find John Hammond records that are electric, I prefer the acoustic ones (just a personal opinion). Also Rory block made experiences outside the blues, but I still prefer her blues records. Both are amazing players.
In her last record "Last Fair Deal" she plays a lot of slide (nothing worng with that). My preference goes to older albums.
You may find some titles I reviewed here under Resources.
I've seen Roy Bookbinder in a video and listened to one of his cds, but actually don't have any of his recordings.
At logo,
Antonio

There's a fantastic John Hammond CD I picked up...."Wicked Grin." It's a collaberation with Tom Waits.
As for new Blues Artists, how 'bout some not so old ones? Eric Clapton just came out with, "Me & Mr. Johnson", and Aerosmith's "Honkin' On The Bobo" Both very interesting and worth listening to.
As for Taj, I've seen him many times, He's awesome!
